Mandatory Evacuation Called

All residents and visitors must evacuate the community. Everyone who is able to arrange their own transportation is advised to leave town as soon as possible, in a calm and orderly manner.

Residents are expected to be clear of the community by 12:00am (midnight) tonight.

For community members with their own transportation, they are advised to evacuate through Provincial Road #10, heading towards The Pas. The #10 may have some visibility issues, but it is currently considered safe to drive. Do not attempt to drive through PR #39 directly towards Thompson.

If you have friends and family who can accommodate you, you should make arrangements with them.

If you do not have accommodations you can access, call 2-11 for information about shelters in Winnipeg.

For individuals who do not have transportation or who require assistance, the City of Flin Flon is making arrangements and will be posting further information.

Residents should bring:

• Identification

• Medications

• Necessary supplies

• Go Bags

• Provisions for pets

We understand that this is distressing, but we urge everyone to proceed calmly and as orderly as possible. It’s important to get moving quickly, but deliberately. It’s critical that no highway accidents or traffic jams impede exit from the community.

There has been confirmation of crews coming in from the far north and that will be a bonus."

Latest On Flin Flon Fire

The City Of Flin   Flon , Town of Creighton as well as the SPSA, RCMP and Resources gathered for another meeting on the Club fire last night which is directly affecting Flin Flon and Creighton.

Creighton Mayor Bruce Fiddler confirmed that the fire is slowly growing. " Well it has grown to 1200 hectares presently,  and it is moving north east because of the winds blowing from the south right now. This is very beneficial for the communities as it is being pushed away from the communities including the smoke. It is moving into Manitoba and it is affecting both provinces and we have the water bombers and fire crews battling it all the time. A Retardent plane has been brought in and it dumped along the south side of the fire."

The Firefighters will continue to battle the fire throughout the night and there will be another meeting at 11 am today to update everyone on the progress.

The Cliff Lake Road and Kisseynew Lake Road are now closed to the public, as the fire has crossed the Kisseynew Lake Road north of Trout Lake Mine. The road will be closed at the Trout Lake Mine road access, and it is essential that community members obey this closure.

You can continue to get updates on the City of Flin Flon and Town of Creighton websites, social media platforms and 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com. click on the wildfire information banner and that will give you access to Manitoba and Saskatchewan fire maps, fire bulletin links, and facebook links for Flin Flon, Creighton, Denare Beach and the Northern Health Region.

Update On Creighton Fire Situation

The latest on the Creighton Landfill Fire.

The City of Flin Flon's Emergency Management Officer met with the Town of Creighton at around 2pm earlier today.

It is determined that the fire has reached 1000 hectares but the good news is that the current wind situation is blowing the fire away from both communities of Flin Flon and Creighton  at this time.

The SPSA who are stationed out in Creighton tell us the fire crews, water bombers, helicoptors are out fighting this fire and will continue to do as long as they can.

They want to emphasize that the public co-operate with any of the work being done as this could seriously affect both communities. They want to give these firefighters all the room and respect that they need to get this fire dealt with.

Roads need to be cleared so that emergency crews and vehicles can get through. Also no one is to be flying drones in this area because once a drone is spotted the air support will be forced to land. Any drones spotted will be shot down.

Firefighters from both Manitoba and Saskatchewan are working very hard as the fire started just northwest of the Creighton Landfill and  is moving north east and crossed over the Manitoba border.

Flin Flon is not under an evacuation order but you are advised to take steps to prepare if the situation changes. If you are a vulnerable person who may need assistance you can visit City Hall or call 1-833-210-6435.

The City of Flin Flon will be meeting with the Town of Creighton at 6pm again tonight and another update will be issued then.

You can continue to get updates by going to the City of Flin Flon and Town of Creighton websites, different social media pages and at 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.

It Is Safe Boating Week In Canada

It is Safe Boating Week in Canada,  and the Canadian Safe Boating Council in conjunction with  Lifesaving Society of Manitoba wants to promote safe and responsible boating practises to the estimated 15 million boaters in Canada.

Manitoba has one of the highest boating fatality rates in the country so the Safe Boating Council wants to remind everyone to get out and enjoy all the attractions safely.

The goal of the week is to ensure Canadians who head out in any type of boat have the appropriate knowledge to help them have a safe day on the water.

The timing of the week  is perfectly aligned with the unofficial start of summer and a time when many boating fatalities occur.

The five key boating initiatives that boaters need to remember is: wear a life jacket, boat sober, take a boating course, be prepared which is both yourself and vessel and be aware of the risks of cold water.

The Pas Fire Update

Posted Today At 6:00am by Derek Logan

Yesterday, residents of the Carrot Valley who were still evacuated along Highway 283 were allowed to return home.

Highway 283 was also reopened to the public, while roadblocks remained in place at Profit Road to allow only residents of the road to enter.

The fire is still out of control but has moved away from the community for the meantime, thanks in large part to the continued service of dedicated emergency responders.

Aqua Centre Continues To Fund Raise

Construction continues at the new Aqua Centre location  and since March,  crews have formed, poured and leveled a heap of concrete and the building is really starting to take form.

Although construction has started fundraising for the Aqua Centre hasn’t stopped and they are still looking for the community’s help.

Flin Flon Rec Director Cait Bailey explains the different ways you can contribute.  " There is lots of different options and we are coming out with a catalogue  so you will be able to visually see , rather than just donating to the project itself,  which is always welcome. You will be able to help us by choosing something that means something to you, maybe something that your business is interested in having their name on. That could be things from Safety CPR, new Floaty's,  if you are looking for something to be  a little more fun. This is a great way to kind of get involved and be part of the process before we open to the public."

The catalogue will be published in the next few weeks and you will be able to view it on the City’s website as well as the Rec and City facebook pages.
