Operation Attache Documentary Comes Out Tomorrow

The long-lost crash site from Operation Attaché, a 1948 U.S. Navy Beechcraft Expeditor flight, has been formally documented in northern Saskatchewan — 77 years after the event.

The aircraft went missing during a September 1948 flight from Churchill, Manitoba, to The Pas, prompting a major RCAF-led search, the largest search and rescue in Canada at that time. All five aboard survived and were rescued after 12 days in the bush. Over the years, local aviators and trappers were generally aware of the wreck, but no official documentation or photos were recorded.

In 2025, Governor General History Award nominee Saskatchewan documentarian Scott Woroniuk and collaborators David Riach, Les Oystryk from Denare Beach  and Doug Chisholm, completed the first confirmation of the site’s identity. Their work provides the first  record linking the wreck to the 1948 U.S. Navy incident, closing a 77-year gap in Canada’s postwar aviation history.

Woroniuk’s 14-minute short documentary, Lost in the Muskeg: The Plane Canada Forgot, will premiere tomorrow  on YouTube as part of his ongoing Abandoned Saskatchewan series.

The City is in the planning stages in line with the community’s vision for growth and wanted to give the residents in our community a chance  to get more information and ask questions about the proposal.

Several residents from the area spoke up about their thoughts of re-zoning the park including  Leslie Pabianik who has lived in this neighborhood for over 35 years.

Leslie talked about this reach green space park and how many people use it including the Disc Golf group, people out walking with their pets, children playing and the overall beauty of the park. Get In The Halloween Spirit At The Hapnot Theatre Tomorrow

The Central Canada Film Group in the spirit of Halloween,  will be showing a movie that took home an Oscar back in the early 80’s this Friday night at the Hapnot Theatre.

Colin Davis explains that this is going to be a movie that is a little different than they typically show. " Well Halloween is coming and we thought we would treat you to a real cult classic favorite, An American Werewolf In London. So what kind of film is this? Is there such thing as a Horror Comedy? Well if there is, this is certainly it. This is very much removed from what we usually show, but if you are up for something different you may wanna give this one a shot. This is a film that almost didn't get made as financial backers thought that the script was to frightening to be a Comedy,  and to humorous to be a Horror."

If you are looking to get into the spirit of Halloween they would like to see you tomorrow night. Doors open at 7, the show will start  at 7:30 and drinks and snacks will be available at the door and don’t forget  admission is free.

We have people congregating to welcome it into the community and embrace the family that is receiving the home, so it is a good day."

Thompson went on to say that they expect a few more homes to come in later this month with the bulk of the new home expected to arrive next Spring. The Village wants to thank the Denare Beach Fire Department who were able to save the community back in June  and Joey Werbicki and his crew for the cleanup.
