The City of Flin Flon have extended their deadline for the community to fill out the Safety and Well Being Surveys til Tuesday June the 30^th.

The City really wants to get  your input and Deputy Mayor Alison Dallas Funk explains why it is important to make sure these surveys get filled out. " It is really important that everyone participates, this is going to really shape what our community is going to look like in the next four years. It will give us a tool to apply for funding for certain programs, like community safety officers, RCMP, what ever we need. We want everybody to have an opinion and have their voice heard. It is your chance and opportunity to say what you are concerned about and what you would like to see in our community. Also what is currently working? What are we doing well? We need people to participate and to see what our community loks like and what everyone is looking for."

The City of Flin Flon will be holding an Open House for the 2027 Board Of Revision.

This is an opportunity for residents and property owners to find out more about the assessment appeal process. You will also be able to ask questions and speak with representatives about the upcoming  Board of Revision.

It takes place at Council Chambers at the City of Flin Flon this Tuesday June the 23^rd between 1 and 4pm.

The Flin Flon /Creighton Seniors have purchased an E-Bike with the help of various grants and donations from businesses in Flin Flon.

The Flin Flon Creighton Seniors reached out to the City of Flin Flon to help get the ball rolling and Katie Anderson tells us where they were able to get the money from. " The big one was a grant from Age Friendly  Manitoba for $10,000.00. The Credit Union was generous with $5,000.00 and the Flin Flon Neighborhood Revitalization also gave $5,000.00 which will cover the whole bike. We have a Canopy for it and we are going to have helmets and train people how to ride it. It will be available for Seniors, people with a disability and the general public." 

The bike will be stored at the Tourist Bureau and they are hoping to unveil it during the Trout Festival Parade. They are planning on setting up a schedule where people from the Northern Lights Manor and the Personal Care Home will have special times to use the bike.

Details are still being worked out and booking information will be released at a later date.

Community Futures Greenstone wants to give you the opportunity to be a CEO for a day.

Greenstone will be holding a Children’s Business Fair at the Creighton Tourism Office on Saturday June the 27^th between 11am and 2pm.

Becky Cianflone and their Summer student Hailey  explain  the event. " It is a take off of the Biz Kid camps that we used to run. This is a one day version where the kids bring their own products and ideas and where they will set up a Market. You can expect 10 to 15 tables with kids running them,  including a chance to buy from them and we will also have chips and drinks available."

On June 13^TH , RCMP  officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision at a business located on Highway 10A in Flin Flon.

Information provided to officers was that a backhoe had driven into the front wall of the business causing some damage. No injuries were reported from within the business which was closed at the time.

Officers responded and met with the 76-year-old male driver, from Flin Flon, who was subsequently arrested for impaired driving and taken into custody.

He was later released from custody for a court appearance scheduled for December 10th, in Flin Flon.

Creignton RCMP are investigating after counterfeit Canadian currency was reportedly passed at a local business.

On June 15th, Creighton RCMP received a report of counterfeit $50 bills being used at a business in Creighton. The counterfeit bills seized by police all had the same serial number: AHU5885903.

Saskatchewan RCMP are advising the public to remain vigilant when handling cash transactions and to be familiar with common indicators of counterfeit bills, including:

- Counterfeit bills may have security elements that appear to be applied as stickers or overlays.

- They may feel different than real bills and may be easily damaged or ripped.

- They may differ in size, shape or colour.

- They may contain holographic images and numbers that do not match the bill denomination.

- They may have black line or bars on them.

Creighton RCMP continue to investigate.

National Indigenous People’s Day will be celebrated right across the country this Sunday June the 21^st including a big celebration in the Flin Flon area.

Vanessa Campbell is the Elder Coordinator and she mentions the different events that you will be able to enjoy on Sunday. " So we are going to have the Nemihitowok Hoop Troop performing as well as Ron Burwash. We are going to have a gathering of the drum with Elder Margaret and Tipi teachings as well. I want to invite everyone down to share in the teachings in the tipis with April Head Nickel, Jenilee Lengyel, Allie Krasolowski and Christie Janvier."

There will also be fiddling music, opening remarks from community leaders, musical headliner Just The Boys, a free barbecue and face painting, culture games, bubble station and crafts for the kids.

It all takes place at the Creighton School Field starting at 1pm.

The City called for tenders and have awarded Tiger Calcium the contract for dust control, Dunn Rite Tire Sales the contract for sanding the roads in the Winter,  and Wintec Building Services for curb and sidewalk repairs.

The City has put a plan together for Boundary realignment which will include the Community Hall Garage, Community Hall Parking lot, Whitney House and Staff House, RCMP building and Flin Flon Airport.

The new Aqua Centre is getting closer to an official grand opening and have a couple of Fun Swims planned for next week. They have posted prices for using the facility on their website and continue to look for Life Guards to train to add to their staff.

A plan has been put together for the Pine Street Bridge where there is funds available from the Sidewalk and Accessorie  grant which will allow them to remodel the bridge. The City are pricing things out and want to start work by the fall.

The City has also approved a donation of $5,000.00 towards the Mile 0 Project which is located at the entrance of Smeaton Saskatchewan. A sign is going to be constructed which will hopefully  help promote tourism for the Flin Flon area.

Some exciting news from the City of Flin Flon, they will be opening up the Joe Brain Petting Zoo for another Summer starting today.

They weren’t able to open last year because of the evacuation and Zoo Supervisor Rylee Reierson welcomes everyone to come out and visit the animals. " We are super excited to have the Zoo open this year, we have all our regular animals including goats, pigs, sheep and chickens. This year we also have some new animals including a Llama who is super cute and a snake, a Gekko, Bearded Dragon and even a little Turtle." 

The Zoo is open 7 days a week 11am to 7pm and there is an admission of $2.00 per person. You can also purchase a season family pass for $50.00.

The Northern Neighbors Foundation handed out their annual grants to different groups and organizations in Northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan,  Monday night at Council Chambers at Flin Flon City Hall.

A total of $188,872.10 was  distributed to the communities of Flin Flon, Creighton, Denare Beach, Cranberry Portage and Snow Lake.

The bigger grants went to the Snow Lake Snow Drifters for $20,862.00 to purchase a Hall Projector, The City of Flin Flon $20,000.00 for the Aqua Centre, Northern Gateway Museum  $15,000.00 for a cabinet upgrade, Norman Community Services $14,540.00 for backyard restoration and the Wahkohtowin Trails Committee $12,776.00 for the purchase of trail equipment.

Other organizations that received grant money included the Town of Snow Lake, Village of Denare Beach, Granny Willow, Cranberry Heritage Museum, Town of Creighton, Creighton School, Creighton Community Hall, Legion Senior Housing, McIsaac School, Friendship Centre, Rotary Housing and Northern Lights Manor.

La Ronge RCMP are working to locate Sampson Roberts, who is wanted on warrant in relation to a shooting investigation.

On June 11^th, La Ronge RCMP received a report of a shooting on Bird Place.

Investigation determined an altercation occurred between two adult males outside a residence. During the altercation, one of the males discharged a firearm and the second male was injured. The armed male left the scene driving a car he took from the scene. The male victim was taken to hospital by EMS with injuries described as serious, but non-life-threatening, in nature.

On the morning of June 12^th , La Ronge RCMP located and recovered the car the male suspect was described as driving at the time of the incident. At this time, the suspect has not been located.

As a result of continued investigation, 25-year-old Sampson Roberts from the La Ronge area is charged with multiple offenses including  one count of discharging a firearm with intent.

A warrant has been issued for Sampson Roberts’s arrest. La Ronge RCMP continue work to locate Sampson Roberts and ask members of the public to report sightings and information on his whereabouts.

Sampson Roberts is described as:

• Height: 5’7”
• Weight: 145 lbs
• Eye colour: brown
• Hair colour/style: brown

The Town of Creighton is getting ready for a busy Summer and will be hosting a number of events for kids and the entire family.

Creighton Rec Director Lindsay Shirran lets us know what is coming up. " The Spray Pool is set to open on June the 27th for the season. The hours for the year will be 11am to 6pm daily, weather permitting as we only close if it is raining. On Sunday June the 28th we will be hosting a free Yoga In The Park with Kristin Imrie at 12:320 pm at the soccer field. That leads up to Canada Day where we will have a number of events going on through out  the day . We are the hosts of the parade, so we will have that coming out this way. There will be a Show and Shine with the Classic Cars at the Sportex. The Canada Day afternoon is being moved over to the Soccer Field this year."

Creighton is also hosting activities for National Indigenous Peoples Day this Sunday June the 21^st at the Creighton School Field. Opening Prayer will happen at 1pm followed by lots of great entertainment and a free barbecue.

The Flin Flon Creighton Seniors held a Walk A Thon at the Creighton Walking Track this past Saturday to raise money for equipment at the new Aqua Centre.

Donna Rudd on behalf of the Board Of Directors tells us they brought in more money than expected. " Originally we wanted to purchase a Water Walker that helps and assists people when they are walking in the pool. Whether you have had a hip replacement, knee issues or  what ever. So we were hoping to raise a thousand dollars to purchase one of those,  but now with all the proceeds that came in we will be able to purchase two of those.We are also going to talk to people at the pool and see what else they need and send the remaining amount of money to purchase something else. We don't know what that will be yet."

More than three thousand dollars was raised and the Flin Flon Creighton Seniors want to thank Creighton Recreation for supplying water, Shauna Rutherford for all her PR,  as well as the public for coming out to walk and for gathering pledges.

Due to the recent rainfall and improved weather conditions, the City of Flin Flon, Town of Creighton and Village of Denare Beach have lifted their  fire bans  effective immediately.

All three municipalities want to thank residents and visitors for their cooperation and understanding during the ban. While conditions have improved, they  remind everyone to continue exercising caution when enjoying outdoor fires and to follow all applicable fire safety regulations.

Please remember to never leave a fire unattended, keep a water source or extinguisher nearby, fully extinguish fires before leaving the area, and be  mindful of changing weather conditions.

Fire conditions can change quickly, and restrictions may be reinstated if necessary.

The Flin Flon Rotary Club gathered at the Rotary Wheel last Thursday night to honor some of their key members.

It was their annual Paul Harris Awards night in honor of the person who started  the first ever Rotary Club outside of the United States in Winnipeg in 1910.

District Governor Wayne Jacobson made the trip up north from Neepawa to help with the presentations.

Two awards were presented including the Paul Harris Award for a Rotarian and there was also a Paul Harris Award presented to a non Rotarian.

Congratulations to Cheryl Hilts who was the Rotarian selected. Cheryl is originally from Regina and has been in the Rotary Club since 2015. Among her highlights include being President in 2023 and 2024, realigning the club’s finances and organizing the Rotary Christmas party.

The non Rotarian Paul Harris Award was presented to long time  Flin Flon resident Ethel Killick.

Ethel has been very involved in the community for well over 80 years including volunteering with Northstar Rebekkah Lodge, the Flin Flon Curling Club, Circle C and was also a founding member of the Women’s Resource Centre.

A couple other awards were presented as well including Rob Nelson who was chosen the Rotary Rookie Of The Year who has stepped up in lots of capacities on lots of different projects. John Clark is the Rotarian Of The Year and has been an active member of the club for years and helps spear head the Rotary Exchange program.

On June 6^th , officers responded to a report of a possible home invasion at a home located on Dadson Row in Flin Flon.

The female caller reported an unknown male knocking at her door which then turned into him trying to break into the home. The suspect uttered threats that he was going to harm the victim and anyone else inside.

The victim stayed on the line with police and advised that she believed the suspect was now in her home and she feared for her safety.

Officers arrived on scene within minutes and met with the victim who exited her home and advised that she believed the suspect may still be inside.

The home was cleared by officers and determined that the suspect had fled the scene prior to their  arrival.

Patrols in the area later located the suspect a short distance away who was arrested without incident.

RCMP have charged 19-year-old Anthony Robinson, of Flin Flon, with Breaking and entering with intent, Utterings threats x3 and Mischief under $5000. He was later released on a number of conditions for court scheduled for July 2, 2026, in Flin Flon.

Northland Ford invites you to drop by the dealership tomorrow between  noon and 4:30pm to test drive a vehicle and help out the local SPCA.

It is the return of Northland Ford’s Drive One For Your Community, and the dealership’s Mike Slipp describes what will be happening. " Northland Ford hasn't done this for a number of years and what it is, for every test drive Northland Ford will give $30.00  to a charity of our choice. This year we are donating towards the SPCA. So all you have to do this Saturday is come in from noon to 4:30pm, and take a vehicle for a test drive and Ford will give the SPCA $30.00. It won't cost you anything and all you have to do is spend about 15 to 20 minutes test driving a vehicle."

The SPCA will be on hand serving Hot Dogs and drinks. You can also support the SPCA by purchasing a vehicle at Ford throughout  the month of June and $50.00 from every vehicle sold will go towards the SPCA.

Residents and visitors will get a chance to view a rich part of Flin Flon’s history with the opening of the Station Museum at the Flin Flon Tourist Bureau Camp Ground,   kicking off their season  very soon.

Chair person Joe Bouie mentions the different items and artifacts they have on display. " A section that is just  dedicated to Hudbay, we have a lot of history in there. There is a fabululous display of different artifacts that they have from over the years. We have interesting stuff from when the first Pioneers were here in town, ranging from old kitchen stuff to old businesses that no longer exist. It was an old train station so we have some pictures and memoribillia from that to."

The Museum will officially open on Saturday June the 27^th and will remain open for 7 days a week between 10am and 6pm right up until Labour Day.

One thing the Museum is working on for their opening is collecting some items from the Flin Flon Bombers to coincide with their 100^th anniversary.

On June 9th, officers from the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Apprehension Unit (MIVOAU) and Thompson General Investigative Section (GIS), located and arrested 19-year-old Eternity Chastelaine and 24-year-old Marshall Merasty without incident. Both accused remain in police custody and will be remanded for a court appearance scheduled for later today.

RCMP continue to search for 17-year-old Khellen Kirkness, of Thompson, who has been charged with Second degree murder.

The RCMP are requesting anyone with information on the whereabouts of Khellen Kirkness to call the Thompson RCMP Detachment at 204-677-6909/6911, call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or submit a secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.

Communities across the Swan Valley remain under a flood emergency after a weekend storm dumped 150 millimetres to 190 millimeters of rain across the region.

The heavy rainfall caused rivers and creeks to overflow, flooding homes, roads, and farmland throughout the valley. States of emergency remain in effect in Swan River and Minitonas-Bowsman as crews continue assessing damage and assisting affected residents.

In an effort to relieve pressure from rising floodwaters, crews cut a section of Highway 10 south of Swan River, allowing water to drain away from heavily affected areas. Several other roads and highways remain closed due to washouts and high water.

Officials say runoff from the Duck Mountains continues to feed local waterways, and residents are being urged to avoid flooded roads and monitor emergency updates.

Emergency rescue teams are being brought in to assist those needing help.

Authorities describe the flooding as one of the most significant events the region has experienced in years.

You are invited to attend an Ecumenical Church Service this weekend at the Rotary Wheel in Flin Flon.

Harry Hobbes on behalf of  the Flin Flon Ministerial  would like to see you there.  " We have been doing this for close to ten years now  but we had to cancel last year due to the evacuation. Basically the majority of the churches like to get together once a year in the Summer to have a service  at the Rotary Wheel. Every church will participate some way or another either by preaching, playing music or reading. It is not just for the people who go to church all the time but is open to anyone who would like to come."

It starts at 10:30 am and the service will wrap up at noon with a free barbecue to follow. This is open to the entire community, no matter what your faith background is.

The Flin Flon Inner Wheel will be holding their annual Car Boot Sale this Saturday at the Victoria Inn Parking Lot between 10am and 1pm.

All the money raised will go towards community projects in the Flin Flon area as we hear more from Rotarian Betty Smith. " Every year we donate to The Gift Of Life, the transplant  in Winnipeg. We give a bursary at the high school, donate to the Food Bank and the Salvation Army and Legion. We also do a bus tour to go around and see the Christmas Lights for the Seniors."

This is the 24^th annual Boot Sale and over $50,000.00 has been raised for the community during that time.

On June 5^th,  Carrot River RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle rollover on Shoal Lake Cree Nation.

Officers responded along with local fire and EMS. A passenger of the vehicle was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. He has been identified as a 29-year-old male from Shoal Lake Cree Nation. His family has been notified. One other passenger and the driver of the vehicle were assessed by EMS. After further investigation, the driver was arrested at the scene.

24-year-old Jeremiah Merasty from Shoal Lake Cree Nation is charged with multiple offenses including impaired operation of a vehicle causing death.

Carrot River RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.

The Flin Flon Creighton Seniors invite you to come out for a fundraiser this weekend on behalf of the new Flin Flon Aqua Centre.

Shauna Rutherford provides the details. " So the Flin Flon Creighton Seniors have put together a Walk A Thon with the idea to raise some funds so equipment can be bought for the new Aqua Centre. They would like to buy a Mobility Walker, and if they raise more money than what the Walker costs they will work with the pool employees and leadership to see what other items they could buy. They are looking for different ways to make the new Aqua Centre accessible for Seniors."

You are invited to come down to the Creighton Walking Track this Saturday June the 13^th between 1 and 3pm and you can get a pledge sheet by calling 431-346-1060.

Refreshments will be served and you can walk as many laps as you like and spectators are welcome as well. Even if you aren’t able to walk you can still come by and make a donation.

On June 5th, Flin Flon RCMP received information that a 40-year-old male, with three outstanding Warrants of Arrest, was at a  hotel, located on Highway 10A, in Flin Flon.

Officers responded and located the suspect who was placed under arrest. The suspect disobeyed directions provided by officers and resisted arrest.

After a brief struggle with officers, the suspect was secured and removed from the property where he continued his resistant and belligerent behaviour.

Upon his search, officers located and seized a small quantity of cocaine, a number of tinfoil wrapped packages of cocaine, cannabis and other drug-related paraphernalia.

40-year-old Benjamin Dumas, of Flin Flon, was  remanded into custody on his outstanding warrants of arrest and with   additional charges of Possession for the purpose of trafficking, Possession of a controlled substance and Resisting  arrest.

Summer is here and Flin Flon Parks and Rec will have plenty of events and activities to keep you and the kids busy this Summer.

Flin Flon Rec Director Cait Bailey is excited about all the big events they have coming up. " We will be opening the Zoo and we are hoping for sooner than later, but unfortunately the late Spring left us with frozen pipes.We need to make sure we have running water before the animals move up. We are fully staffed and ready to go when they are. We will be taking part in the Trout Festival again and the kick off barbecue is going to be on June 30th. So it is in the midst of regular Trout Festival time, but we are actually partnering with the Women's Resource Centre for Walk A Mile In Her Shoes which will take place during that barbecue."

The City Of Flin Flon wants to remind residents and business owners to please shut off water bleed lines during the summer months. Keeping bleed lines running unnecessarily places additional strain on our water system and increases overall water usage.

During emergencies such as structure fires, high flow rates can impact the City’s ability to maintain a sustainable water supply when it is needed most.

They  ask everyone to take a few minutes to ensure bleed lines are turned off and help do your part to conserve water and protect our community’s water supply.

Art Unexpected 2026 is a community driven initiative supporting families in Flin Flon, Creighton and Denare Beach who have lost their homes to fire.

This group would like provide meaningful art to families to help make the transition into new homes. Jan Modler explains how this group got started. 

" It is a project started by a couple of former Flin Flonners out on Vancouver Island who were quite devastated with what happened here with the fire. They wanted to do something that would raise the spirits of people. They are both artists and they thought that perhaps art in a new home makes a house a home. They have been putting a call out to artists who would like to donate original art work that would come here and be given out to people who have lost their homes."

The response has been overwhelming with over 200 pieces of art that has already been donated. Donations are still being accepted, so if you would like to bring people hope, healing and beauty for families starting over they would like to hear from you.

You can drop off your Art Work to Flin Flon City Hall or the Norva Centre and you can contact Jan for more information at 306-688-0188. The Art Work will be distributed during Culture Days on September the 19^th.

The Flin Flon Public Library is getting ready for a busy summer and will be offering lots of programs for the entire family over the next few months.

Library Administrator Lisa Slugoski has more. " So we have our Summer Reading Club happening starting in July and running to August. It will happen once a week and you will have to register for that. We will post on our Facebook page when we are ready to take registrations. We also have an online literacy program that was sent to us from Start To Finish. So there is 8 weeks of activities that the kids can do online. We are also going to be having some Saturday Crafteroons for the kids, where we are going to do different crafts and you can just pop in for those."

The Flin Flon Creighton Area SPCA will be holding another fundraiser to help keep their doors open at their shelter.

Tiffany Falk gives us the details on what they have coming up and what the proceeds will be used for. " So we have Unleash The Laughs, Come Rescue The Animals fubdraiser on Friday June the 19th at the Creighton Community Hall. It is going to be a great night so grab your friends and come on out, doors will open at 6:30pm and the show is at 7:30pm. There is going to be a Silent Auction, Penny Parade, cash bar. This is a big fundraiser for us as we need the proceeds to help pay our employees, vet bills, any kind of needs that come into the shelter. Food, cleaning supplies, all that sort of stuff."

The night will feature Comedian Chad Anderson and tickets are $50.00 each and can be picked up at The Orange Toad, The Gateway, Falk’s Tire Shop and any SPCA board member.

This is for ages 19 and older and you can also support the SPCA with an event in conjunction with Northland Ford, Drive One For Your Community on Saturday June the 13^th from noon to 4:30pm. Come by the dealership that day and Northland Ford will donate $30.00 from every test drive towards the local SPCA.

Thompson RCMP are asking for the public’s assistance in locating 23-year-old Gracelynn Spence.

Gracelynn was last seen on May 28th, at a residence on Teal Avenue.

RCMP are concerned for her wellbeing.

Despite extensive patrols throughout Thompson and several address checks, police have not been able to locate Gracelynn.

She is described as 5’7” tall with a medium build and brown hair and was last seen wearing black sweatpants and a blue top.

A lot of progress is happening with the restructuring of Camp Whitney and the new swimming pool.

The Director of Works and Operations for the City of Flin Flon, Mike Funk  updates us on the work that is being done. " We made a Winter road out there this past Winter and we hauled all of our business material on an ice road . So that work was already done and all our supplies were out there already. We have Stack City out there right now and they are doing the final clean up on the site in preparation to  start construction. We will be starting that any day now and footings will be going in first. We are doing a bit of a new reorientation in how the buildings are going to be laid out on the property from the ones that we did lose."

If all go’s well they are hoping to re-open Camp Whitney to the public in late 2027. There are still a few kinks to work out for the new swimming pool including getting everything  communicating  properly with  the new computer system. They still need to get more signs up and making sure all the staff is properly trained. They are hoping to open up later in June or early July.

The Northern Neighbors Foundation will be holding their grant presentations on Monday June the 15^th at Council Chambers in Flin Flon beginning at 6pm.

Shylo Rogers explains where the grants will be going. " So it is community organizations from across our area and we are looking for projects that are inclusive, have to do with education and safety. Anything that is going to make our communities a better place to live and keep us safe and happy. When your organization has a project that they are looking to do and need some help with funding, we are the people that you come to."

A total of over $189,000.00 will be distributed to different groups and organizations from Flin Flon, Creighton, Denare Beach, Cranberry and Snow Lake. Since 1997 Northern Neighbors have distributed over two million dollars towards community projects in our area.

The grant presentations are open to the entire public.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit (HIU) continues to actively investigate the June 1^st  shooting in Pelican Narrows that resulted in the death of one individual, and serious injury to another.

The deceased has been identified as a 28-year-old female from Pelican Narrows. The injured is an adult male. His injuries are now considered to be non-life-threatening in nature.

HIU officers are in Pelican Narrows speaking to witnesses and gathering evidence.

Investigators believe an altercation occurred at a residence between a group of individuals known to one another. The female was injured at a residence on Chachakew Street, then the male was injured minutes later, on the road that is in proximity to the local health clinic.

Investigators have confirmed the altercation did not occur in the clinic. Saskatchewan RCMP issued a dangerous person alert in relation to this incident as initial information indicated it occurred at the clinic and it was possibly random in nature.

Investigators have obtained video of a suspect in this shooting. The suspect is described as a male, who was wearing all black and was carrying a handgun and a cellphone.

Residents of Pelican Narrows will notice a continued increased police presence in the community. Investigators thank community members for their patience with the increased police presence, and all who have provided information to them.

The Flin Flon Baptist Church will be bringing a Blue Grass Family concert to Flin Flon and Denare Beach.

The group is the Elias Family who have appeared many times on the Tribal Trails Bible program out of Prince Albert. Dave Milton talks about the show. " They are a musical family and Kevin is from Southern Manitoba and his Indigenous wife is from Ontario, and they have four sons from 20 something down to 7 or 8. Kevin is a awesome Mandolin player, he plays that great big high base fiddle by hand and the guitar and sings. They give testimony and they call it a family Blue Grass concert."

The shows will take place at Amisk Lake Church on Friday June the 12^th at 7pm, Saturday June the 13^th at the Lutheran Church and Sunday June the 14^th at the Flin Flon Baptist Church at 10:30am.

Admission to all these shows are free but an offering will be received.

City Council gathered at Flin Flon City Hall on Tuesday night to discuss a number of topics for their first meeting in June.

Different members of Council were joined by community members from Denare Beach and Creighton who had a chance to sit down with different Minister virtually to discuss the uniqueness of all three communities working together.

The meeting went very well and the key topics were safety and health.

Tenders have been sent for Summer paving, sidewalks and dust control. Council will make a decision next week on who will be receiving the contracts.

Preparations continue on the opening of the new swimming pool as training continues for all the new equipment, as well as the installation of security cameras and completion of the wash rooms.

The City will be making a donation of $25,00.00 towards the Community Garden for the purchase of signage, seeds,bedding plants, garden tools, mulch,gloves,sprinklers and hoses. The City will also be donating a prize for the Trout Festival Fishing Derby.

The City of Flin Flon also want to acknowledge the bravery and resiliency of all the people that have stepped up in helping with the fire recovery in Denare Beach from last year’s Wolf Fire. They want to acknowledge Pride Month and appreciate the community coming together in the spirit of acceptance and love.

Cranberry Portage is home to the largest Artisan Market in Northern Manitoba with over 50  vendors to check out from all over Manitoba.

The first Artisan Market of 2026 will take place this Saturday and Barb Bragg lets us know what will be new this year. " We have a few interesting new things. We have an  unveiling of our first photographic mural which is going to go Uptown some where. We will give everyone who comes to the Market a chance to see it for the first time. We also want to hear from folks if they want to see a Shuttle for the next two markets in July and August. We may install a free shuttle for you to get out here. The other thing is we have an artist at work, Granny Willow is going to be making Wreaths."

The Market will take place this Saturday from 11am to 3pm at the Cranberry Portage Heritage Museum grounds and will include live music and food vendors.

Yesterday marked one year since the Wolf Fire went into Denare Beach and destroyed two thirds of the Village.

The Village held a Wildfire Recovery and Community Healing Day to honor all the brave people and groups who have stepped up to help rebuild the community.

Meredith Norman is the Chief Administrative Officer and she talks about the progress the Village has made in the last year. " We have come together fabulously, our residents have stood  up and fought for us, our council stepped up and put in the work they needed to. Our fire department hasn't stopped and have fought right til the bitter end and they continue to fight daily for us. It is just amazing where we are today and we have 18 homes back and over 60 permits ready to go this Summer. We are hoping to see much of  Beaver Lake back in action by the end of this year and hopefully we will have a bit of a normal Summer."

Interm housing is still available if people are in need of a place to live. You can drop off a Needs Assessment form at the Denare Beach Village Office and they will get you placed in a home. Red Cross is still coming up every month and they will meet with residents at the Creighton Sportex Lounge. They will assist with insurance needs, financial assistance and small business assistance. Saskatchewan RCMP arrested a suspect at a residence in Pelican Narrows just after 7pm last night.

The dangerous person alert issued by the Saskatchewan RCMP for Pelican Narrows and surrounding area has been cancelled.

Investigators thank the public for their assistance in this matter.

The LOBSTICK fire was reported on May 26^th  and SPSA crews were dispatched very quickly.  It is located  between Duck Lake and Prince Albert and  is  not contained and is 13,000 hectares. SPSA personnel, including Type 1 and 2 crews, have been assigned to the fire, working alongside local fire departments and SPSA Emergency Response Team.

Additional resources, including heavy equipment, helicopter and air tanker support, have been fighting  this fire for multiple days. Multiple dozer guards have been established and some crews continue to set up sprinkler units (i.e., value protection units).

The SPSA reminds residents and visitors to always be aware of when and where open burning is permitted in Saskatchewan to help prevent wildfires.

Wildfire season is here and the City of Flin Flon wants to make sure you are prepared in case of an emergency or a need to evacuate.

The City wants all Flin Flon residents to pre register and help them plan for an evacuation during this wildfire season.

By pre-registering you can help the Emergency Management team with how to contact you in the event of an emergency, vulnerable people who may need help in an emergency, helping plan for emergency buses and accommodations if needed and more.

All you have to do is fill out the form on the QR code located on the City Of Flin Flon website at cityofflinflon.ca or fill out a form in person at City Hall.

The First United  Lutheran Church of Flin Flon celebrated a couple of milestones this past weekend. Not only did they commemorate a national celebration for the Lutheran Church but they also celebrated something special locally.

Kristina Lies talks about the weekend events. " Our National Church the ELCIC was celebrating 40 years and our local church building was built in 1961 making it 65 years this year. That means our church has been sitting on top of the hill with that red cross on it for the last 7 decades. What we did to celebrate was a community clean up then we had a free lunch with Hot Dogs and Cup Cakes. We also had a few of the Church's join us after their  own services to come and celebrate with us."

The Lutheran Church want to thank everyone who came out to help them celebrate and wanted to remind everybody about the Ecumenical Church Service happening at the Rotary Wheel on June the 14^th starting at 10:30am. 

Last Wednesday, The Pas RCMP received a report of an erratic driver on Highway 10, within town limits, who was driving at a high rate of speed.

Officers in the area located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. The driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, was observed and identified by police.

The suspect vehicle failed to stop for police and continued driving at a high rate of speed. Out of an abundance of caution, the suspect vehicle was not pursued.

The Pas RCMP were then notified by MFNPS officers that they were attempting to stop the same vehicle however the suspect refused to comply with police.

A pursuit was initiated by officers as the suspect had now run several vehicles off the road. With the successful deployment of a spike belt, the suspect vehicle was subsequently stopped and the driver arrested after a brief struggle. Several MFNPS vehicles were damaged as a result of being struck by the suspect vehicle in her attempt to escape.

The 43-year-old female driver, from The Pas, was turned over to The Pas RCMP where she remains in police custody. She will be remanded into custody on charges including Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, Impaired operation of a motor vehicle, Refusal to comply with a breath demand, Uttering threats and Flight from police.

The Pas RCMP are asking anyone who may have witnessed this erratic driving behaviour to contact the Detachment at 204-627-6204.

The Flin Flon & Creighton Community Safety & Well-Being Survey is now open, and the City  wants  to hear from you.

City Councillor Mike Slipp explains why it is important to provide your feed back. " Well it is very important to fill these out and we have developed a Community Safety  and Well Being Committee. With that , the Canadian Centre For Safer Communities has taken part and helped us put together a safety plan for Flin Flon, Creighton and Denare Beach. This is funded by both Manitoba and Saskatchewan Justice. So this survey is to find out what people's experiences are with safety and well being  in Flin Flon, Creighton and Denare Beach. What is working well? Where are their Challenges and how can we continue building a stronger healthier community? 

All you have to do is scan the QR code on the poster to participate which is located on both the City of Flin Flon and Town of Creighton websites. It will only take about 20 minutes of your time to fill out and the deadline is June the 15^th.

Everyone who completes the survey will have a chance to win a $50.00 gift card.

Last Tuesday, Pukatawagan RCMP received a report of shots fired towards a home in the community. People were in the home at the time of the shooting however no injuries were reported.

The subsequent investigation has led to the arrest of two males, a 14-year-old and a 17-year-old, who were taken into custody without incident.

This incident occurred approximately 45 minutes after two males had been shot at and injured while operating a quad in the community.

Investigators believe this second shooting was likely a retaliatory incident.

It is now believed that all suspects involved in the two shooting incidents have been arrested.

Pukatawagan RCMP continue to investigate. 

The Flin Flon Chamber of Commerce held a public meeting last Thursday to talk about the current state of the Chamber and if it should continue in this area.

Becky Cianflone is the local  President and she was pleased with the turn out and feels positive going forward. " I thought the meeting was very well attended and I was excited for the crowd we had out. There was so much positivity in the room and people seemed very inspired for the future. I think there is a sentiment that we have a very strong business community and we are going to get organized and our voice is going to get stronger. So our Eexecutive is going take back a lot of the comments and information that we learned tonight. We are going to determine how often we can get folks together and start to put some projects in place and make some momemtum around some of these big issues facing our community."

25 people from different business’s showed up and there is definitely a feel that the Flin Flon, Creighton and Denare Beach business community want the Chamber to continue.

The Chamber has been involved in many different projects over the last 25 years and right now are an active partner with the Music On Main street, trying to put a roof on Pioneer Square, a shop local campaign as well as working with other Chambers across the province.
