Update On Creighton Fire Situation

The latest on the Creighton Landfill Fire.

The City of Flin Flon's Emergency Management Officer met with the Town of Creighton at around 2pm earlier today.

It is determined that the fire has reached 1000 hectares but the good news is that the current wind situation is blowing the fire away from both communities of Flin Flon and Creighton  at this time.

The SPSA who are stationed out in Creighton tell us the fire crews, water bombers, helicoptors are out fighting this fire and will continue to do as long as they can.

They want to emphasize that the public co-operate with any of the work being done as this could seriously affect both communities. They want to give these firefighters all the room and respect that they need to get this fire dealt with.

Roads need to be cleared so that emergency crews and vehicles can get through. Also no one is to be flying drones in this area because once a drone is spotted the air support will be forced to land. Any drones spotted will be shot down.

Firefighters from both Manitoba and Saskatchewan are working very hard as the fire started just northwest of the Creighton Landfill and  is moving north east and crossed over the Manitoba border.

Flin Flon is not under an evacuation order but you are advised to take steps to prepare if the situation changes. If you are a vulnerable person who may need assistance you can visit City Hall or call 1-833-210-6435.

The City of Flin Flon will be meeting with the Town of Creighton at 6pm again tonight and another update will be issued then.

You can continue to get updates by going to the City of Flin Flon and Town of Creighton websites, different social media pages and at 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.
