Curling Club Meeting And Registration

The Flin Flon Curling Club will be hosting a general meeting at the Uptown Curling Club Lounge Wednesday, November the 4th starting at 7.

 

They will also host registration for all leagues on Thursday November the 5th also starting at 7 at the lounge.

 

Registration will be taken for all leagues which will start the following week.

A Busy Night For Cal Schell

The Laronge Ice Wolves fired all kinds of rubber last night at Cal Schell and upended the Bombers 6 to 2 at the Mel Hegland Uniplex in Laronge.

 

Laronge fired 56 shots at the veteran goaltender out of Burlington Ontario enroute to their second straight pre-season win over the B'S.

 

Liam McGarva was steady at the other end of the ice stopping 34 out of 36.

 

Easton Haygarth and Connor Jennings scored their first goals of the pre season, with Haygarth scoring short handed and Jennings finding the back of the net on the PP.

 

Rhett Rhinehard and Justin Lies have been re-assigned from their WHL teams and made their Bomber debuts last night. Lies is a home town kid who plays with the Vancouver Giants and Rhinehard's dad, Dwayne played for the Bombers in the early 90's.

 

Laronge got goals from six different players including veterans Aaron Greyeyes and Spencer Kennedy as they now lead the pre-season series two games to one.

 

These two teams will meet one more time in the pre-season this Saturday at the Whitney Forum.

 

Tickets will be available at the Bomber office today between 4:30 and 7 and will be sold on a first come first serve basis with only 150 tickets available.

Tickets For Saturday

The Flin Flon Bombers will play their final pre-season game this Saturday at the Whitney Forum against Laronge.

 

Due to regulations around Covid, only 150 tickets will be available.

 

Tickets for this Saturday's game can be purchased tomorrow (Thursday) at the Bomber office at 35 Main street between 4:30 and 7.

 

Once again tickets are limited to 5 per person.

 

Tickets will be sold on a first come first serve basis and masks will once again be required for the game and you will have to social distance.

 

102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com will have the broadcast of Saturday's game as we will hit the air at 7:15 with the Great North GM Coach's Show.

 

The Bombers will be in Laronge tonight, with the pre season series even at a game a piece, and pucj drop is 8:30 MB time.

SJHL Releases Schedule

The SJHL will kick off their regular season on Friday November the 6th and will play 50 games with the regular season ending on Saturday April the 3rd.

 

The league will go back to two divisions for this season only and the Bombers will be in a division with Laronge, Melfort, Nipawin, Battleford and Kindersley.

 

Teams will play their division opponents 4 times before crossing over after Christmas.

 

The league will shut down for the Christmas break on December the 19th and resume New Years Day.

 

Flin Flon will start the season with a home and home against Melfort starting at the Palace on Friday November the 6th,  and back in Flin Flon for the Bomber home opener on Saturday.

 

Kindersley will travel up to the Whitney Forum the following weekend, November the 13th and 14th.

Blizzard Add WHL Experience

The OCN Blizzard got a big shot in the arm as the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL have reassigned Evan Herman and Justin Nachbaur to the Blizzard til December the 20th.

 

Both these players are from Northern Manitoba with Herman right from the Pas and Nachbaur from Cross Lake.

 

Herman has already suited up for a game and picked a goal in a loss to the Dauphin Kings last weekend.

 

Herman suited up for 59 games for the Raiders last season and picked up 22 points including 9 goals. He also won best conditioned Raider for his rookie season.

 

Nachbaur is entering his 20 year old season and played with the Blizzard as a 16 year old where he picked up 31 points in 55 games.

 

In three seasons with the Raiders he has 74 points and has been tremendous in the locker room. 

 

Head Coach and GM of the Blizzard, Billy Keane is excited for  what these players will bring to his program. " The addition of these players will elevate our skill level, pace and performance levels and all the guys around them will get better and that is our goal."

 

Keane also mentioned that the Blizzard will  be welcoming back Bryden Sinclair, a 19 year old defenseman who was recently with the Maryland Black Bears of the NAHL.

 

With Covid, Sinclair wants to remain in Canada.

 

All these players are expected to be in the Blizzard lineup this weekend against Dauphin.

Wolves Double Bombers

After opening up the pre season with an OT win on Thursday, the Bombers dropped a 4 to 2 decision in Laronge Saturday.

 

Flin Flon led the game 2 to 1 after the opening period on goals by Hayden Clayton and Jaeden Mercier. Clayton has scored three goals in the first two pre season games.

 

Holden Knights scored a short handed goal to get the Wolves on the board early in the frame.

 

Laronge kept coming and scored three straight from Logan Holm, Walker Jerome and Brandon Della Paolera.

 

Xavier Cannon made his first start of the pre season and stopped 31 out of 33 shots to get the win.

 

Jared Thompson, the rookie out of Regina made his first start in a Bomber uniform and stopped 29 out of 33.

 

Both teams had plenty of opportunities on the PP, with the Bombers going 1 for 10 and Laronge 2 for 8.

 

These two teams will meet two more times in the pre season including a meeting in Laronge on Wednesday and back in Flin Flon Saturday.

Wheat Kings Sweep Northstars

The Norman Northstars suited up for a pair of games against the Brandon Wheat Kings this past weekend at the C.A. Nesbitt Arena in Thompson.

 

Brandon had no problem finding the back of the net with impressive wins of 8 to 2 and 13 to 2 to improve to 5-0 on the season.

 

In Saturday's game,  Flin Flon's Connor Slugoski and Magnus Pearson both chalked up assists while  Odin Church came into the game in relief and stopped 11 out of 12 to keep the game respectable.

 

Cheechoo Lathlin from the Pas, scored both goals on Sunday.

 

Norman will fall to 0 and 3 on the season and will host Southwest this weekend.

 

The Norman Wolves also dropped a pair of game on the weekend against Pembina Valley by scores of 3 to 1 and 5 to 2.

 

Flin Flon's Ryder Mucha scored a goal in both games.

 

The Wolves will be back in action on November the 7th and 8th, when they travel to Winnipeg to face the Monarchs.

Northstars And Wolves Both In Acton

The Norman Bantam Triple A Wolves and Norman Northstars will both hit the ice this weekend in Thompson.

 

The Wolves will host Pembina Valley after a good opening weekend against Interlake where they picked up a win and a tie.

 

The Northstars will try to shake off a 10 to1 setback against Parkland.

 

Brandon comes to Thompson for a pair of games, Saturday at 7:30 and Sunday at 1:30.

 

Attendance will be limited to 100 spectators, so plan to get there early.

Bombers Win In OT

The Flin Flon Bombers and Laronge Ice Wolves finally got back on the ice last night as the SJHL kicked off their pre-season.

 

In front of 150 spirited fans the Bombers knocked off the Wolves in OT,  3 to 2.

 

Laronge actually led 2-0 after one period but the Bombers kept getting better as the night went on and reeled off three straight goals to win the game.

 

Hayden Clayton and Nathan Gagne both scored in the second and third periods to send the game to OT.

 

The Bombers, who had the most lethal powerplay last season scored with the extra attacker in the extra period when Clayton would score his second of the contest.

 

Flin Flon heavilly out shot Laronge 51 to 29 and went 2 for 7 on the pp. Laronge was 0 for 4.

 

Cal Schell stopped 27 shots for the winm and local product Alex Bell turned away 48 shots in a losing cause,

 

Nolan Doell and Narek Alehsanyan scored the Laronge goals.

 

These two teams will battle three more times in exhibition with the next game Saturday in Laronge. This will be an 8:30 Manitoba start time.

Haygarth Named Assistant Captain

Congratulations to second year Flin Flon Bomber, Easton Haygarth who has been named an assistant captain for the up coming season.

 

He and his brother Chase came to the Bombers in a trade from the Whitecourt Wolverines of the AJHL before the beginning of last season.

 

Haygarth had a very good season with the Maroon and White picking up 53 points in 56 games including 19 goals. He also had 5 points in 4 playoff games.

 

Easton should be part of one of the best lines in the entire league with his brother Chase and former Saskatoon Blade Zach Huber.

 

The Bombers will announce the other capatains later this week.

How To Get Tickets For Thursdays Game

The SJHL announced a plan to play with the regular season starting on November the 2nd. Pre- season will start this Thursday.

 

Flin Flon will host Laronge on Thursday night and tickets will be sold to the general public this Wednesday (tomorrow) betwen 5 and 7 at the office at 35 Main street.

 

Tickets will be sold on a first come, first service basis with only 150 tickets available. These tickets are not included in season tickets packages.

 

No walk ups available and social distancing and masks will be required for the game.

 

This is for the first pre-season game only with details for the second to follow.

SJHL Approved To Start Play

The SJHL announced that they have been approved to play by the Saskatchewan Government and will start playing exhibition games immediately.

 

The regular season will begin starting November the 2nd.

 

The Flin Flon Bombers will play Laronge 4 times in exhibition with games scheduled for Thursday October the 22nd in Flin Flon, Saturday October the 24th in Laronge, Wednesday October the 28th in Laronge and Saturday October the 31st in Flin Flon.

 

There will be a maximum of 150 fans in attendance for exhibition and masks will be mandatory.

 

The SJHL will announce attendance for regular season games at a later date and the Bombers have a board meeting on Tuesday and will provide more information on how they will handle attendance for exhibition with an announcement Wednesday.

Wolves Have Good Opening Weekend

The Norman Bantam Triple A Wolves kicked off their season this past weekend in The Pas with a pair of games against Interlake.

 

On Saturday, the Wolves and Lightning fought to a 2-2 tie. Aiden Meyer and Matt O'Toole from the Pas provided the offense.

 

Flin Flon's Paxton Moore stopped 45 out of 47 shots.

 

On Sunday, the Wolves won 5 to 2 with two goals from Flin Flon's Wyatt Stinton, and one goal from Ryder Mucha.

 

Rachlan Hay and Matt O'Toole from the Pas also scored.

 

The Wolves will hit the ice in Thompson next weekend with a pair of games against Pembina Valley. 

PLGC AGM Highlights

The Phantom Lake Golf Club held their Fall AGM last night at the Clubhouse and reported on how everything went in 2020.

 

Dennis Hyndman gave a financial report and said revenue was down 18 % from the year before but the Club still made a profit.

 

Bad weather and all the Covid restrictions were the biggest reasons why.

 

Golf Pro, Kelly Mclaren also spoke and thanked his staff, volunteers and board for really pitching together in a very difficult year. He also said they have a better understanding on how to deal with Covid if it is still around next spring.

 

Greens Superintendant Brett Stephenson mentioned they have officially closed down the course and will be preparing the greens for winter. They will be looking for volunteers to put up snow fenses and lay straw down.

 

They will send out an e-mail when they are ready to do this.

 

The number 5 fairway should be ready for August and a big thanks to Roly Abel and Joey Werbicki on all their work.

 

Ray Shirran, Jeff Woods and Bruce Galay were all re-elected to the board with Jason Kozar and Scott Danko newly elected.

PLSC AGM

The Phantom Lake Soccer Club will be hosting their AGM on Wednesday October the 21st at 7 pm.

 

The meeting will take place at the Victoria Inn in the Northen room.

 

Everyone is welcome and don't forget masks are mandatory and social distancing must be maintained.

Norman Northstars Kick Off Season This Weekend

The Manitoba Midget Triple A League will kick off their new season this weekend and the Norman Northstars will host the Parkland Rangers in a pair of games.

 

Games will take place this Saturday at 7:30 and Sunday at 1: 30 at the C.A.Nesbitt Arena. Capacity will be limited due to Covid 19 from 300 to 330 depending on seating arrangement.

 

The Northstars recommend you get their early.

 

Masks will be mandatory at all times and social distancing will be a must with households  required to sit together. The concession will not be available.

 

All other information will be available on the Northstars web-site.

 

Due to the Covid,  the Northstars will play their first 8 games at home and have a strong contingent from Flin Flon including Evan Reid, Connor Slugoski, Magnus Pearson, Nolan Rideout and Odin Church. 

Bomber Season Ticket Update

Flin Flon Bomber season tickets are now available to the general public, There are about 100 tickets still available and with the Covid situation they can only guarantee 450 seats to start the season.

 

You can pick up tickets at the Bomber office, Tuesday to Friday 12-4. You can also call the office for more details at 204-687-4404.

 

If you go on a payment plan for a season ticket, you will have to have it paid in full by November the 15th.

 

The SHA has put together a return to hockey plan for Junior, Senior and U-18-AAA with the different guidelines being approved by the Saskatchewan government.

 

“The Saskatchewan Hockey Association is implementing a phased-in approach for minor hockey in the province. The ‘Return to Hockey’ plan will include four phases, which must be approved by the chief medical officer before proceeding to the next,” said the Saskatchewan Hockey Association in its return strategy. 

 

“Each phase within the Saskatchewan Hockey Association’s Safety Guidelines is subject to approval. Dates, procedures and protocols may change as deemed necessary by the Government of Saskatchewan and/or Saskatchewan Hockey Association.”

 

The SJHL could start their pre-season by October the 17th and the regular season by November the 1st.

 

Wolves Will Play Exhibition Game

The Norman Bantam Triple A Wolves will be holding a practise in the Pas,  Friday night as they will play their first exhibition game against Parkland in Swan River on Saturday at 12 pm.

 

Their season will start the following weekend at a location yet to be determined.

 

The Wolves feature 13 and 14 year olds from right across Northern Manitoba including a strong contingent from Flin Flon.

 

 

Higgins Signs Pro Deal

Congratulations to former Flin Flon Bomber defenseman Tyler Higgins on signing a pro contract with SC Langenthal of the Swiss League.

 

After spending parts of three seasons in the QMJHL, the Bombers picked up Higgins from the Saint John Sea Dogs in the 2018-19 season where he suited up for 24 games.

 

He picked up 10 points and added another 4 points in 9 playoff games.

 

After graduating from Junior hockey, Higgins went on to play one season at York University.
