Northstar Roster Released

The Norman Northstars roster has been set for the 2016-2017 season after training camp wrapped up in Thompson on Sunday.

 

Two players from Flin Flon will return this season including forwards Tristan Galarneau and Ethan Stuckless.

 

James Buchanan will return for his first full year behind the bench as head coach after taking over late last season.

 

 

Norman will begin the season with a 3 game road trip starting Friday September the 30th in Pembina Valley, Saturday October 1st at Winnipeg Thrashers and wrapping up Sunday October 2nd in Central Plains.

 

The Northstars home opener is Saturday October the 8th VS Eastman.

Bomber Main Camp Schedule

The Flin Flon Bombers will open up training camp starting Wednesday at the Whitney Forum with registration at 9 PM.

 

54 kids are expected to take part including local players Willy Eichel, Jeremy and Tanner Dutcawich and Tristan Galarneau. There will also be some players with Flin Flon connections including Isaac Jackson who was born in Flin Flon and played  in the Flin Flon Minor Hockey system til Pee Wee.

 

Another name Bomber fans will recognise is Brody Madarash, who is the son of former Bomber Tim Madarash who is the teams  all time leading scorer in the SJHL. Brody has lots of family in town and is very excited to put on that Bomber jersey for the very first time.

 

Madarash and Jackson have both been playing with the Beardy's Blackhawks of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA League the past couple of seasons.

Kodiaks Ready To Defend Title

The Creighton Kodiaks 6 man football team will kick off their season at home against Air-Ronge Thursday Sept the 8th  4PM at the Creighton field.

 

The Kodiaks are the defending Ralph Pilz Champions and are very excited and are eager to get their season underway.

 

Head Coach Ryan Karakochuk was in the CFAR studio on Wednesday and talked about the upcoming season, player changes and some of the challenges for his team in this year's Northern Saskatchewan Football League.

Northstar Tryouts

 

The Norman Northstars are ready to start their season with  training camp this  weekend.

The camp will be hosted at the TRCC and will have midget and bantam players trying out for spots.

 

The tryouts  will start Friday night and there  will be  dry land and scrimmages throughout the weekend including the Blue vs. White intra squad  game on Sunday starting  at 12:30PM.

 

This is the 32nd season for the Northstars who are looking to improve from their last place finish last year.

 

Bomber Annual Golf Tournament

The Flin Flon Bombers annual golf tournament will take place Saturday September the 10th with a 1 Pm shotgun start at the Phantom Lake Golf Club.

 

 

It is $75.00 per person which  includes a round of golf and a steak dinner courtesy of the Victoria Inn.You can enter individually or in a group of 4 and every group will include a Bomber player.

 

There will be lots of draws for great prizes and the Bombers appreciate your continued support on all their fundraisers.

Summer Games Wrap Up

The Power Smart Manitoba  Summer Games wrapped up this past weekend in Steinbach.

 

The Norman Region finished up strong with 16 medals total including 5 Silver and 11 Bronze. The big winners included Athletics Star Megan Szabo and swimmer Jarvis Gibb, who combined for 7 medals for the region.

 

Flin Flon's Ryan Nawrocki won a Silver in swimming for the 50 Freestyle, and Connor Brown won 2 Bronze in swimming for the Mixed Relay 200M Freestyle and the 200M Medley Relay Team.

 

The Norman Under 13 Female Soccer team capyured the Bronze medal defeating Westman. Norman only lost 1 game in the entire tournament.

Senior Golf Results

The Phantom Lake Golf Club held the Senior's Open this past Wednesday with 67 golfers taking part.

Catching Up With Rob Beck

 

I always enjoy summer time because you never know who you will bump into, as Flin Flon seems to be a popular destination especially for people that grow up here.

 

 

I had the chance to sit down with Flin Flon's Robbie Beck who played with the Flin Flon Bombers between 1990 and 1993, including their Championship season in 93. Rob was back in town for his parents 50th wedding anniversary and was gracious enough to sit down and talk about the good ole days and what it meant to be a Bomber.

 

We look back on Beck's career including that glorious run that included both the SJHL and Anavet Cups and a chance to play for a National Championship.

 

We also chat about what Rob has been up to  for the past 25 years and his connection to the club today.

Reagan Talks About Hockey School

The Extreme Hockey School is just a few weeks away from it's 17th season. Mike Reagan will return as the head instructor and talks about the success of Northern Manitoba's longest running hockey school.

 

He also touch's in on how important this school continues to be in this community. Mike was in the CFAR studio yesterday and you can hear that interview right here.

 

 

Senior's Open

 

The Phantom Lake Golf Club will present the Senior's Open Tournament on Wednesday August the 10th.

 

There will be two shotgun starts this year at 8 AM and 1 PM. Your $50.00 registration will include 18 holes of golf, prizes and dinner.

The 27th annual Cranberry Trout Challenge wrapped up this past weekend on Lake Athapap and was once again a huge success with 63 boats taking part.
