Bomber Main Camp Schedule

The Flin Flon Bombers are embarking on another season and will kick off Main Camp tomorrow with upwards of 60 players expected to be competing for spots for this year's club.

 

It all starts with player registration tomorrow at the Whitney Forum starting at 3. Here is the full schedule for the weekend.

Bombers Extend Season Ticket Deadline

The Flin Flon Bombers have extended their season ticket deadline til this Friday at the new Office at 31 Main street til 4.

 

Early bird prices include Adults $325, Seniors $275, Students $175 and kids $125.

 

The Bombers are just 90 tickets away from their goal of 500, so stop by the office tomorrow through Friday 12-4, and you can also call 204-687-4404.

Northstars Wrap Up Training Camp

 

The Norman Northstars wrapped up their training camp with the annual Blue and White intrasquad game which took place earlier today at the CA Nesbitt Arena in Thompson. Team White came out with the 10-4 victory.

 

Flin Flon's Brycen Francoeur and Freddie Ledoux scored for team Blue.

 

The final roster was announced after the game and congratulations to goalie Rylan Potkonjak, forwards Blake Lahonen and Morgan Daneliuk, as well as defensemen Jordan Brycen and Jordan Pfoh. They were the five players from Flin Flon selected.

 

The Manitoba Midget AAA season will begin on September the 30th when Norman kicks off a three game road trip in Pembina Valley.

 

 

Lee Off To Youth Olympic Games

Fresh off his brother Hunter winning a Silver medal at the Junior Under 21 Pan American Championships in Brazil, Carson got some pretty exciting news himself.

 

Wrestling Canada announced that Carson Lee will be one of two wrestlers to compete at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires Argentina, October the 12th to the 14th.

 

Lee was nominated based on his finish at the Cadet Pan American Championships in Guatemala City in May. Lee won a Silver medal and also finished fifth at the Cadet World Championships in Zagreb Croatia.

 

" It's a pretty cool thing to know I'm the only male representing Canada in wrestling at the Youth Olympic Games. I am looking forward to experiencing international competition at the highest level."

 

The Youth Olympic Games are an elite sporting event with young people competing from all over the world.

Norman Northstar Try-outs

The Norman Northstars who have totally re-vamped their coaching staff for the up coming season will hold try-outs at the CA Nesbitt Arena in Thompson later this week.

 

Player registration is this Thursday Agust the 23rd. Team try-outs will take place this Friday through Sunday, August the 24th to the 26th.

 

Pre- registration can be dropped off at 23 Pelican in Thompson.

Walt Cunninghamham Labour Day Classic

The biggest event of the Phantom Lake Golf season is almost here. The Walt Cunningham Labour Day Golf Classic will take place Saturday September the 2nd til Monday Septembe the 4th.

 

There will be two shot gun starts Saturday at 8:30 and 2PM. The cost is $120.00 and you must pay at the time of registration. The afternoon shotgun is filling up quick.

 

There will be lots of extra events through out the weekend too including a closest to the hole pin contest,long drive,putting contest and a hole in one contest.

Another Medal For Lee

Another milestone for Flin Flon's Hunter Lee who picked up a Silver medal at the Junior Under 21 Pan American Championships in Brazil on the weekend.

 

Hunter won 3 matches and lost one competing in the 92 KG weight class. His Gold Medal match against Cameron Gaffey of the US was voted the top match of the tournament and was also featured in the move of the day.

 

Hunter also qualified for a spot for the Senior World's and will be training for the Junior World's which are coming up the second week of September in Slovakia.

Rodnisky and Bilquist Lead The Seniors

The Phantom Lake Golf Club hosted the annual Senior's Open yesterday with 66 golfers taking part. Congratulations to Duke Rodnisky who fired a 75 to lead the men and Pat Bilquist shot a 91 to win the ladies.

 

Don't forget the Youth/Adult tournament will take place this Sunday at 11AM. You can sign up with one adult and one youth per team. It is $30.00 which includes 9 holes of golf, prizes and a meal. Deadline to register is Friday at 6, so call the Pro-Shop at 306-688-5555.

Bombers Add A Second Season Ticket Blitz

The Flin Flon Bombers are headed back to Main Street, as they will be opening their new office at 35 Main next Tuesday.

 

To celebrate they will once again be offering season tickets at a reduced price as they try to hit 500. Right now they are 175 short.

 

If the Bombers hit 500,  all season ticket holders will receive a free Bomber hat.

 

The season ticket blitz will take place at the new location next Tuesday through Friday only. Hours will be 12-4 and you can call 204-687-4404.

Shoot To Score Hockey A Big Success

The Shoot To Score Hockey Skills Camp was a big success in Flin Flon this past weekend. This was the first time it was ever held in Flin Flon and Camp Director Tom McDermott says 62 kids signed up and had a blast on the ice with the likes of Reggie and Jamie Leach.

 

I had a chance to catch up with Jamie Leach the founder of Shoot To Score and we talked about how the program has evloved over the years, the state of hockey today and his NHL career which included 2 Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Salahub Does It Again

The 2018 Club Championship was decided earlier today at the Phantom Lake Golf Club and Lori Salahub picked up her unprecedented 18th straight Ladies Title.

 

Salahub won the Ladies with a 79. There is a new Men's Club Champion as Trevor Fox fired a 71.

 

Lauren Fox took the Juniors with a 88. Randy Fox the the Senior Men's with a 79, Pat Bilquist the Senior Ladies with an 83 and Brian Bortis the Super Senior's with a 79.

 

28 golfers took part and the Senior's Open is this Wednesday and the afternoon shotgun is full. There are still entries for the morning shotgun at 8, so call the Pro-Shop at 306-688-5555.

 

 

Female Wild Try-Outs

The Norman Triple A Bantam Female Wild try-outs will take place in Flin Flon at the Whitney Forum the weekend of August the 25th and 26th.

 

This is open to any girls between 14 and 15 who live in the Norman region.

 

Registration is $125.00 and you can sign up by getting a hold of Darrin Mansell at darrin.mansell@gmail.com.

Club Championship

A very busy August continues for the Phantom Lake Golf Club as the annual Club Championship will take place this Sunday August the 12th.

 

It is open to all members including Men's, Ladies, Senior Men's and Ladies, Super Senior Men and Ladies and Juniors.

 

Tee times will start at 11, and their may be a shotgun start if their are enough entries.

 

It will be complementary 18 holes and prizes. There will also be a steak dinner for $21.00 to follow.

Fidierchuk and Johnston win 2018 Trout Challenge

 

The 2018 Cranberry Trout Challenge wrapped up yesterday after two great days of fishing on Lake Athapap. 63 boats took part and here are the top 11 finishers of 2018.

Catching Up With The Riverton Rifle

The Shoot To Score Hockey Pro Skills Camp will be in Flin Flon next week starting on Wednesday at the one and only Whitney Forum.

 

The Camp features two names that are no strangers to Flin Flon including the Riverton Rifle and Flin Flon Bomber great Reggie Leach and two time Stanley Cup champion  Jamie Leach.

 

The camp has been going on for 7 years, but this is the first time it will ever take place in Flin Flon.

Seniors Open

The Phantom Lake Golf Club will be hosting the Senior's Open on Wednesday August the 15th. It is open to both Ladies and Men who are 50 and over.

 

There will be two shotgun starts at 8 and 1PM. Entry fee is $45.00 for members and $50.00 for non-members which includes 18 holes, prizes and food.
