54 golfers teed off at the Phantom Lake Golf Club yesterday for the annual Senior's Open.

The tournament was broken up into two age categories including 66 and under and 67 and over.

The Flin Flon Bombers are getting ready to celebrate their 100th season and there will be a lot of special events,  and they want to give you a chance to be part of history.

Volunteers are a big part of this team's success and they are looking for some enthusiastic young people to be part of the game day action.

They are looking for anyone 11 and over to work in the Penalty Box, 14 and over to work the clock,  and anyone 15 and over to be a Camera Operator.

The excitement is brewing for the defending SJHL Champions with Main Camp less than a month away,  starting on Friday September the 4th and the first Pre Season Game on Sunday September the 6th against the Northern Manitoba Blizzard.

That will be a 4pm start time at the Whitney Forum.

If you are 16 years of age or older Flin Flon Recreation is looking for two to three individuals to host Drop In Sports for the up coming season.

The sports that are featured include Volleyball, Basketball and Badminton, and they take place on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights at the Flin Flon Community Hall.

Flin Flon Minor Hockey is ready to kick off another season later this month.

It all starts with the 3 On 3 Jamboree on Saturday August the 29th at the Whitney Forum.

The tournament will include Divisions U-9, U-11 and U-13 and all the games will be played in one day.

Registration is open and you need to be signed up with Flin Flon Minor Hockey before you can take part in this tournament.The registration deadline is Wednesday August the 26th.

A busy couple of weeks at the Phantom Lake Golf Club.

The Men's Club Championship will begin on August the 17th and it will be a little different format this year. It will be decided by Match Play and you have up until August the 15th to sign up.

Matches will start once again on August the 19th and you will have a week to complete them. Number of Match Play games will depend on the amount of entries.

 The Junior and Senior Club Championship will be decided at the Closing Day Tournament in September.

The next Two Person Mixer will be played on Saturday August the 22nd with a Shotgun Start at 5pm.

Sign up as a pair with any combination whether it is a guy and a girl, two girls or two guys, open to both members and non-members. Cost is $50.00 for members and $65.00 for non-members.

There are still some spots left for the Rink Hockey Camp starting next week at the Whitney Forum.

It will start on Monday August the 10th and go til Thursday August the 13th.

The Camp will once again feature ages U-7 all the way up to U-15-18. Ice times start at 2:30pm and go  right til 8pm.

Each age group includes 16 players and 3 goalies and every player that registers will  get a Rink Hockey Jersey.

One last chance to make a splash at the Hudbay Aquatic Centre this Summer.

Make sure you register for the H2 Whoa Swim Camp taking place between August the 17th and 21st.

It will be a chance to take part in  swimming skill development, stroke improvement, water safety activities, Team challenges and races, obstacle courses and fun games every day.

It happens between 5 and 6pm and is for ages 8 to 12 with a cost of $50.00.

Participants must be comfortable swimming in the deep end and able to successfully complete a swim test.

For the last 19 years, Mike Reagan has been the Head Coach and GM of the Flin Flon Bombers.

That is about to change as the home town product is on his way to the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL to become the team's new Assistant Coach.

Reagan leaves behind an incredible legacy that will probably  never be duplicated.

In 19 years behind the bench Reagan has proven himself to be one of the top bench bosses in Western Canada.

His resume speaks for itself. 2024 CJHL and SJHL Coach Of The Year, 4 time SJHL Coach Of The Year finalist, 6 league Finals, 6 Division Titles and a Canterra Seeds Cup Championship this past Spring, the first for the franchise in 33 years.

Reagan's career coaching record with the Bombers stands at 606-334-88, which not only makes him the winningest coach in Bomber history but one of the winningest coach's in the history of the SJHL.

One of Mike's biggest strengths was,  he was   able to put a quality team on the ice every single season,  as  he did not miss the playoffs one single time in his 19 years behind the bench.

Reagan also did a tremendous job getting his players to  the next level and was able to get over 40 players into the NCAA Division 1 schools.

This is a very big loss for the organization but on behalf of the entire Bomber family I want to personally congratulate Mike on his opportunity to get to the next level. He will be greatly missed but deserves this opportunity.

Mike also gets to leave on a high after guiding the team to their first league title in 33 years , something that he and the entire community have chased for more than three decades.

I will never forget what Mike said to me on our Post Game Show on 102.9 CFAR after winning the Championship in Yorkton in April. " I feel like the weight of the Smoke Stack  is off my shoulders, now that we finally got this done."

No one wanted to win or was committed to winning more than him , and it was nice to see the Hockey Club and community get rewarded with this Championship.

The accolades  don't end there for the former legendary bench boss, as Reagan will get his place in the SJHL Hall Of Fame. The Flin Flon Bombers will host the SJHL Induction Ceremony on Saturday   September the 26th.

Reagan will be one of 6 inductees including the 92-93 Championship Team. 

The Bombers wasted no time naming a replacement as former player and Assistant Coach Cole McCaig will be leaving the Brookes Bandits to return to Flin Flon.

McCaig spent 7 years as an Assistant  behind the Bombers bench between 2018 and 2025 and was born in Flin Flon and played for the team between 2011 and 2014.

Cole knows the community well, the history of the organization and was very popular with the players and is able to relate to the players of today. 

He will be a very good fit and I know the organization has all the confidence in the World that Cole can come in and continue the success  of this storied franchise.

The Creighton Kodiaks 6 man Football Team is preparing for another season as they wil be playing out of Conference 3.

Training Camp will open up August 19th at 6:30 pm at the Creighton Field and will continue right up until September the 10th. August the 19th will be a meet and greet to officially get going.

On August the 20th they will put the pads on to  start full contact practises.

The Kodiaks will open up the season at home on Friday September the 11th against ST Brieux at 4pm.

Creighton will then travel to Carrot River on Friday September the 25th at 7pm, host Lanigan on Friday October the 2nd,  before hosting Viscount on October the 11th and closing out the season in ST Brieux on Friday October the 23rd. 

The 35th annual Cranberry Portage Trout Challenge came to a close yesterday on Lake Athapap.

44 boats tok part from all over Manitoba and Saskatchewan including a duo that made it in from Bonnyville Alberta.

It was a great weekend of fishing with a whopping 295 fish caught on Saturday and another 149 on Sunday.

When it was all said and done, it was a duo from Stonewall Manitoba, Paul Munroe and Darren Blazeiko who finished first and will take home $65,00.00.
