SJHL League Meetings

The SJHL are looking forward to this fall and getting all 12 teams back on the ice after not being able to crown a league champion the last 2 years.

The league announced they will be holding a coach's meeting in Nipawin June the 3rd to the 5th which will involve discussions surrounding timelines for training camp and regular season dates as well as potential number of games for the season.

They will also be discussing what to do with the bantam draft, the potential of yearly showcases and other matters pertaining to the league.

There is a lot of optimism surrounding next season's outlook with things starting to re-open slowly in Saskatchewan including baseball and soccer given the green light from the province to start playing games this Sunday.

While the goal is to get the teams back on the ice for September, the big debate could be on how many fans to let into buildings for the start of the season.

The scuttlebut from the different league coach's I have talked to is that a decision likely won't be made til much closer to the beginning of the season.

We hope to catch up to Head Coach and GM of the Bombers, Mike Reagan for next week's Norman Sportsline Program and get their perspective on things.

Bombers Sign Another Flodell

Covid has had a very negative effect on sports the past couple of years and has hit junior hockey teams especially hard including the Flin Flon Bombers.

One of the players who suffered because of the pandemic was team captain Matt Flodell who only got to dress for two regular season games before the season was called off.

Matt was 20 and his tenure as captain was short lived but the Flodell name will continue with the organization the next three years.

The Bombers have signed Matt's younger brother Nathan who  played two seasons in the Saskatchewam Midget Triple A League with Beardy's and Battleford.

With the Blackhawks, Nathan put up 10 points in 44 games but only got to suit up for the Stars for three games before the season was halted. He collected 3 assists.

Flodell was selectd in the third round, 36th overall by the Melville Millionaires in the 2018 SJHL Bantam Draft,  and is extremely excited to be heading to the same junior club that his brother called home for the past three seasons.

“I was able to watch my brother play for the Bombers and I loved the atmosphere the community, fans and hockey club brought. I’m excited to start my junior hockey career with such a historic franchise.”

Cole McCaig Re-Signed to Multi-Year Contract Extension, Adds Assistant General Manager Role

The Flin Flon Bombers are pleased to announce the re-signing of Assistant Coach Cole McCaig (Brandon, MB) to a two year extension starting for the 2021-22 season.  McCaig is also the Marketing Director for the Bombers and will also assume the role of Assistant General Manager.

“Cole has done an excellent job in his many roles with the team over the past three seasons,” said team President Travis Rideout.  “We’re very happy to re-sign him to an extension after the season we just had and all the hard work he did with the team, sponsors and fans in difficult times.”

McCaig joined the team three seasons ago after playing NCAA III with Marian University (Fond du Lac, Wisconsin) for four years, prior to that he played three seasons of Junior A hockey, including 123 games with the Bombers from 2011-2014.

Jon Klassen, who served as the team’s Assistant General Manager, will take on the role of Director of Player Personnel.

Another key signing this spring for the hardest working Coach and GM in the SJHL, Mike Reagan who has landed a talented forward south of the border.

The Flin Flon Bombers announced on social media today that they have signed forward Jacob Vockler out of Sioux Falls South Dakota.

Vockler who is 18,  and stands 6 ft tall ,  was a fifth round selection in the USHL Futures draft by the Lincoln Stars. Jacob suited up with the Belle Tire under 18 program where he put up pretty much a point per night with 65 points in 68 games.

Vockler also added 9 points in 5 playoff games.

Head Coach and GM, Mike Reagan says Vockler will  be a explosive player for the Maroon and White right off the hop. “Vockler is a highly skilled player that has a high hockey IQ and will be an exciting player to watch. We felt we needed to add a player with his offensive talent and we expect him to step in and produce right away.”

Bombers Bring In Size And Skill

The Flin Flon Bombers remain busy on the recruiting front and have landed a big Manitoba forward who could be one of the faces of the franchise for the next few seasons.

The Bombers have signed out of Brandon, 18 year old forward Cabrel LaBossiere.

LaBossiere spent the last three seasons with the Eastman Selects out of the Manitoba Midget Triple A League.

In 74 career games, LaBossiere put up 46 points and also added 2 points in 10 playoff games.

Cabrel's size and skill should allow him to be a dominating player in the SJHL and he is very happy to be heading up North.

“I’m super excited to be a part of a successful organization like Flin Flon. I’ve heard nothing but great things about the team and community and I can’t wait for the upcoming season.”

The orginization realesed a stement saying "Our orginization firmly believes that AL Lchilldren should play even if we are a border town.
