Bombers Look Forward To Main Camp

Another SJHL hockey season is just around the corner with Flin Flon Bomber Main Camp hitting the Whitney Forum next week.

Mike Reagan the Head Coach and GM who guided his team to two straight league finals is looking very forward to the start of another season. He says the recruiting has gone very well and he feels they will be very competitive and better than a lot of people think.

The Bombers have some holes to fill after losing 13 players from last year's team including Rylee Zimmer and Troy Williams who ended up being the futures in the Eric Sinclair deal with Melville.

Reagan says they have a number of good prospects to watch in this year's camp including Vaughan Bamford out of BC. He is a 6 foot 2 defenseman who has good skills, competes hard and has a great shot. He chose Flin Flon over two teams in the BCHL.

Another prospect is Calbin Boots out of Alaska who is a 6 foot defenseman. Reagan describes him as versatile, a very good skater and should play in the Bombers top 4.

Flin Flon is also high on a couple of forwards from the Manitoba Midget AAA League including Dawson Mckenzie who suited up for the Winnipeg Thrashers. Mckenzie put up 54 points in 41 games including 20 goals and Reagan likes his play making ability and hockey iq.

Dylan Burton his linemate with the Thrashers is also very good offensively who put up 48 points in 37 games including 25 goals. Reagan says he is a great skater and very good offensively.

Main Camp will start Wednesday at 3PM with registration, before hitting the ice at 4. Intrasquad games will start Thursday at 10AM.

We will have the complete main camp schedule posted here next week and don't forget to pick up those Bomber season tickets at the office at the Flin Flon Community Hall. We are at around 360 and as soon as we hit 400 every fan will receive a Bomber T- Shirt.

Lee Brothers Medal At Canada Games

There is no mistaking it,  the Lee brothers Carson and Hunter continue to dominate the sport of wrestling, taking it to heights never seen before in Northern Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

You have to wonder where they find room to display all their hardware as they continue to excel on the mat in every meet they take part in.

This time the two brothers made local history becoming the first two athletes from Flin Flon to win medals at the Canada Summer games in Winnipeg.

Hunter blew away his opponent from Ontario in less than two minutes by a perfect 10-0 score to capture Gold in the 98- Kilogram category. His brother Carson picked up Silver in the 76 Kilogram category losing a close battle  6-5 to an Alberta opponent.

Flin Flon's third wrestler who competed Keelan Salamondra also had a good showing finishing  5th in the 98 Kilogram category.

Team Manitoba took 4 Wrestling medals total and helped the province with their biggest haul ever in the Summer Games finishing with 41 medals to break the old record of 35.

Hunter had this to say about the move which led to his gold medal winning performance. " Once you get the leg locked in it is usually really hard to get out of. Once it is in, the match is pretty much over. I just wanted to go out and dominate as much as I could."
