Senior Basketball Zones will start tonight with the girls games in OCN, and the boys games to be played in Flin Flon.

The Hapnot Queens will play Cranberry tonight at 6:30, then The Pas tomorrow at 11and OCN at 4pm. The Queens will play their final round robin game Saturday at 11:30 against Norway House.

The final will be played Saturday at 3.

The Hapnot Kings kick off their schedule against Norway House  tonight at 6:30.  OCN will play The Pas at 5pm tonight. The winner of that game will play Cranberry tomorrow at noon. If the Kings win their first game they will play Cranberry at 3 tomorrow.

The final will go Saturday at 2.

The Flin Flon Men's and Ladies Bonspiels will take place at the Uptown Curling rink next weekend March the 15th,16th and 17th.

The theme will be St Patricks Day and the entry fee is $180.00 per team with the deadline to sign up on March the 8th.

When you sign up include your entry fee, team personnel,position played and phone numbers.

The U11 Peds Threads are getting set for their final tournament of the season.

The Bombers will travel to Grand Plains for the U11A provincials March 1st-3rd.

The tournament will consist of 8 teams which include the Bombers, Grand Plains Hawks, St Claude Knights, Labroquerie Habs, Swan Valley Stampeders, Virden Oil Capitals, Gimili Vikings and the Neepawa Titans.

The Bombers will face off against St Claude and Grand Plains on Friday and Labroquerie on Saturday. After the round robin teams will be ranked in their respective pools and cross overs will begin Sunday.

It should be a competitive tournament and the Bombers are looking forward to the challenge. Keep up to date on all the action this coming weekend at hockeymanitobastats.ca/page/provincials 

The Flin Flon Ski Club is getting ready for their biggest event of the year, which will be the 49th annual Val and Ivor Hedman Centaloppet this Sunday.

It is a chance to come out with family and friends and be part of this great event. It is an easy 2.5 kilometre event which will end at the Chalet.

You can register at the Chalet basement at 1 with the mass start next to the Chalet at 2.

It is free and all age groups are welcome and there will be lots of prizes including largest family, happiest face and with the handicap system, everybody will get a chance at the prestigious Centaloppet Cup.

It is that time of the year again with the Phantom Lake Soccer Club getting ready for another season.

Registration will open this Friday and if you register by March the 15th, you will be eligible for a early registration draw which will include a chance to win free registration for 2024.

There will be two chances to win.

The age groups include Little Boo's, Timbits U-5 ,Timbits U-7, U-9, U11, U13 and U-15-17.

It was a tough afternoon for the Norman Northstars who lost to the Southwest Cougars by a score of 5 to 2. That combined with Eastman's 5 to 2 win over Parkland will give the Selects the 8th and final playoff spot.

This doesn't take away from Norman having one of their best seasons in recent memory. It has been over 10 years since Norman made the playoffs and the first time in many years that they finished in double figures in wins.

Norman finishes the regular season at 19-23-1-3-1 and miss the post season by a single point. Isaac Tomchak from Wanless had one of the two goals yesterday and he finished third in  Northstars in scoring with 19 goals and 22 assists for 41 points.

Justin Valentino was also awarded the Manitoba U-18 Coach Of The Year for drastically turning this program around in just one season.

Hopefully this wasn't the last game in Norman Northstars history as it has been rumoured that the Manitoba Midget U-18 League  was looking to contract them and Kenora out of the league starting next year.

There has been no official confirmation by the league,  but Thompson Mayor Colleen Smook has been rallying for support from sporting  groups, various organizations  and political figures to help keep the team in Thompson.

This is the only U-18 team in Northern Manitoba and if the league contracts them that means that all the kids from the entire  Norman Region will have to head south to look for spots to play.

You can add another banner to the rafters at Hapnot Collegiate as the JV Queens Basketball team rolled through the North at Zones this past weekend.

Hapnot hosted teams from all over the North and the Queens steam rolled OCN , The Pas and Norway House to go 3-0 in the round robin.

The Queens would meet up with MBCI out of the Pas in the final and picked up the convincing 63 to 35 win to win the tournament and cap a perfect weekend.

Hapnot is off to Provincials in Winnipeg the weekend of March the 7th to the 9th.

The Hapnot Kings were at Boy's Zones in the Pas. The Kings went 2-1 in the round robin with wins over OCN and Norway House. Their lone loss came to the Pas.

The Kings would get another crack at MBCI in the final but came up a bit short losing 56  to 32 but still had  a good season and finished second.

MBCI will represent the North in Winnipeg at Provincials March the 7th to the 9th.

The Flin Flon Bombers got some much needed secondary scoring and were able to double up on the Kindersley Klippers 4 to 2 last night and snap a three game losing streak.

The Bombers were stifled on the first two games of the trip and dropped a 3 to 1 decision in Humboldt on Thursday and Kindersley held off the Maroon and White 3 to 2 on Friday.

A lot of the focus heading into Saturday was the team's lack of production 5 on 5 the last few games and needing someone other than Justin Lies and Carter Anderson to start scoring.

Flin Flon got exactly what they needed when Riley Niven took a perfect pass from Anthony Piccininno from back of the Klipper net. Niven took the pass and made no mistake by firing it top corner on goalie Cody Jaman.

That was the only goal in the first period and the Bombers rode the momentum into the second when Keefe Gruener bounced on a sweet rebound in front of the Klipper net to pick up his second since arriving from the AJHL on deadline day.

The goal seemed to kickstart the Klippers who got the deficit to one, when former Bomber, Brock Mueller scored on the powerplay to collect his 11th of the season and 6th as a Klipper.

Entering the third, the Bombers would get a very important insurance goal which stood up as the game winner when Kylynn Olafson was able to take a pass from Dawson Karol. Karol got across the Klipper line and was able to find Olafson open in front of the net and he made no mistake.

This was Olafson's 5th of the season and his third against Kindersley this year. Cam Perlinger would make things interesting when he jammed in a loose puck on Harmon Laser Hume late in the game , but that is as close as the Klippers would get.

Adam McNutt was able to hit the empty net with just 40 seconds left in the game to preserve the Bombers win and give the club a big sigh of relief as wins have been tough to come by.

Flin Flon was able to salvage one win on the road trip and snap the three game losing streak. I give Kindersley a lot of credit as they are a totally different team that was at the Whitney Forum in October.

 They are extremely feisty and are getting great goaltending from Cody Jaman who stopped 35 out of 38 including three clear cut break aways. Harmon Laser Hume was able to pick up his league leading 27th win, with 22 saves on 24 shots.

Wins are a little tougher to come by with a lot of teams already in playoff mode and are still fighting just to get into the post season. Not to mention everybody wants to knock off the number one team in the country.

Kindersley is one of those teams that had their three game winning streak snapped and are currently in 6th spot with 50 points, which is just a single point behind Melville for fifth.

They are tied with Estevan, and both teams are 4 points up on Weyburn for the final playoff spot.

Flin Flon has officially clinched first overall and now sit at 41-6-2 and lead the second place Battleford Stars by 14 points who  just went 0 for 3 on their Southern road trip and won't be able to catch the Bombers with only 6 games left.

The Bombers have 7 games remaining and will host the Estevan Bruins in a pair of games this weekend, Friday and Saturday.

This could also be a possible first round playoff matchup with the Bruins just 4 points up on Weyburn  for 8th who do have  2 games in hand.

It will be a very interesting end to the season with 5th through 8th separated by just 5 points. You will be able to hear the Saturday game against the Bruins on 102.9 CFAR and flinflononline.com.

It was another successful game for the PBCN Selects yesterday night at the Whitney Forum as they took on the Norway House North Stars for the fifth time this season.

The Selects opened up the scoring with 2 quick goals coming from Mathis Bacon-Labbe. Norway House did answer back with one of their own from Dawson Osbourne on the power play to close the gap to 2-1. Then nearing the end of the first period, Kaden Eetuk found the back of the net for the Selects again to make it 3-1 going into the intermission.

For the second period, it was all Selects as they continued to pile on the goals, scoring 4 more times with goals from Dion Fontaine, Owen Angooteaulk, Pavlo Kobikov and Kobe Tanuyak.

It was 7-1 for PBCN going into the third and despite Norway House getting some good looks, they couldn’t find the back of the net. The game finished off with goals from Embry Roberts and Kobe Tanuyak of the Selects to put them up 9-1 and win the game.

The Selects outshot the Northstars 65 to 20 in the victory. Ethan Fecther made 19/20 saves to increase the Selects record to 23-9-0-0.

Congratulations to Justin Valentino from the Norman Northstars on being selected as the Manitoba U-18 AAA Coach Of The Year.

Valentino who hails from Thompson and is a former Northstar has turned the program around and they have a playoff spot in sight at 18-22-1 with the league’s second best powerplay at 21.5 %.

The Northstars sit in the 8^th and final playoff position with 38 points which is three up on the Eastman Selects who have a game in hand. Norman has just two games remaining on the season as they will entertain the Southwest Cougars this weekend.

Games are this Saturday at 7:30 and Sunday at 1:30 at the CA Nesbitt Arena.

The Senior Hapnot Queens basketball team wrapped up their regular season this past weekend at the Warren Wildcats Invitational tournament.

After dropping a their first game to Immanuel Christian 46 to 34 the Queens got on track.

They beat the Teulon Saints 59 to 26 and captured the Consolation Final beating the Carman Cougars 46 to 25.

The Queens will be back in action in two weeks when they head to OCN for Zones. 

The Senior Hapnot Kings were in Neepawa and they had a very good showing going 1-1 in the round robin. After losing their opening game to Gordon Bell they beat Neepawa in a nail biter 66 to 63.

That put them in the final against Virdon and they would end up losing to a very good Virdon team. The Kings will host Zones in two weeks time at Hapnot.

The U-11 Peds Threads Bombers were down at the Munn Cup in Thompson this past weekend and things started well with a 7 to 2 win over the Pas Huskies.

They dropped their second game to Swan River 5 to 1 and lost a close game to Thompson 5 to 3 with an empty netter.

That put them in the Semi- Final once again against Swan River and they lost a heartbreaker 3 to 2.

Flin Flon got to play for Bronze and knocked off the Pas 8 to 3 to win the Lamontagne Cup.

Logan Boucher led the way with four goals, Aiyden Kemp had a pair and Brody Cooper and Quinn Trubiak also scored.

Eli Chrisp was named to  the Munn Cup All Star Team as a goalie.

The Flin Flon Curling Club hosted their annual mixed bonspiel this past weekend at the Uptown Curling Rink.

10 teams took part in a round robin and the two finals were played this afternoon.

On the A-Side for the Flin Flon Trades Association  Dave Blatherwick picked  up the win over Tom Kozar 9 to 6.

The Dave Blatherwick rink was made up of Dave Blatherwick- Skip, Judy Blatz-Third, Randy Bowman -Second and Joan Bowman -Lead

The B-Side saw Laurie Salahub pick up the convincing 9 to 1 win against Wes Hornyak. The winning rink was made up of Laurie Salahub- Skip, Dave Salahub- Third, Sara Lynne Koop- Second and Patty Evans- Lead.

Next up will be the Men's and Ladies Bonspiels coming up the weekend of March the 15th, 16th and 17th. Sign up sheet will be posted soon on the Uptown Curling Club bulletin board.

It was another terrific weekend of hockey between the two  SJHL power houses as the Flin Flon Bombers and Battleford Stars split the weekend series at the Whitney Forum.

On Friday, the Bombers pulled out the 5 to 3 win. The Bombers saw a two goal lead disappear as the Stars were able to tie the game mid way through the third.

If it wasn't  for Harmon Laser Hume and an incredible save in a goal line scramble, Flin Flon may not have pulled out Friday's win. The Bombers rode the momentum and got a short handed goal from Alexi Sylvestre which proved to be the game winner.

Jacob Vockler added a goal with less than a minute left for a little extra insurance. The other Bomber goals came from Carter Anderson who scored a pair including his 34th and 35th and the home town captain Justin Lies who netted his 36th.

The Battleford goals came from Jordan Grill, Bradley Blake and Hunter Burgeson. Harmon Laser Hume out duelled Matthew MacArthur and made 38 saves for his league leading 26th win of the year.

Saturday was even more explosive and the Stars wouldn't be denied this night and picked up a wild 8 to 6 win.

The Stars came out to play and scored two quick goals before the game was even 5 minutes old courtesy of Evan Waldie and SJHL leading scorer Kian Bell.

This game had all kinds of ebb and flows and momentum shifts throughout the entire game and was the most exciting game that I have personally witnessed in a long time.

Bomber captain, Justin Lies was able to convert on the powerplay with a pefect shot top corner on Stars netminder Logan Cunningham to cut the deficit to 2-1 after 1.

The Stars kept coming and restored the two goal lead when Jackson Allan scored a powerplay goal of his own.

Flin Flon looked like they might be in business when they scored 4 of the next 5 including two more powerplay goals from Jacob Vockler and Noah Houle. Alexi Sylvestre then  scored a pair which gave Flin Flon a brief lead at 5 to 4.

The lead lasted just over a minute as sharp shooter Ben Portner scored on a wrap around to tie the game at 5 with exactly one minute left in the second period.

It was all Stars in the third as Hunter Burgeson would get his second in as many games and Alex Izyk and Josh Medernach also found the back of the net. Bomber captain scored his second powerplay goal of the game and is back in the league with 38 on the season.

A couple of goal posts on a late Flin Flon powerplay, but they couldn't get any closer and dropped just their fourth of the year in regulation 8 to 6.

The Bomber powerplay was smokin and wound up 4 for 6 while the Stars could only bury 1 goal on 7 chances.

Kenny Marquart suffered his first regulation loss of the year and gave up 7 goals on 37 shots before making way for Harmon Laser Hume who came in relief and stopped 3 of 3. The Stars added a late empty net goal.

Logan Cunningham picked up the win and ended up with 39 saves on 45 shots.

The weekend lived up to all the hype and if these two teams to meet up in the playoffs it could go down as one of the most historic playoff series of all time. They have already clashed in some memorable playogff matchups, but this looks like it may end up as the most entertaining of them all.

After the weekend split the Bombers sit at 40-4-2 and 82 points. The Stars are now 33-10-3-1 and are 12 points behind Flin Flon for first overall.

The Bombers have exactly 10 games left and only 3  at the Whitney Forum. They hit the road for a big three game road trip starting Thursday in Humboldt and a pair of games in Kindersley on Friday and Saturday.

Hard to believe, but this is Flin Flon's first visit to the Elgar Petersen Arena this year and beat the Broncos in all three meetings earlier this year at the Whitney Forum. This could be another possible playoff meeting and the Bombers better be ready.

A huge weekend coming up at the Whitney Forum as the Flin Flon Bombers fresh off a 3 to 0 win in Melfort on Wednesday will host the Battleford Stars.

The Bombers who are number one  in the country will host the number eight  ranked team and defending champions. Matter of fact,  this is Battleford's first visit since winning the championship on Forum ice last April.

The two teams did meet for a very entertaining weekend of hockey in Battleford January the 26th and 27th,  with the Bombers squeezing out a pair of wins including that exciting 5 to 4 OT win on the 26th.

Battleford makes their way to town winners of 7 of their last 10 and sit second overall at 32-9-3-1, 12 points behind the front running Bombers. Kian Bell continues to be quite the story and will hit Flin Flon with a staggering 73 points in 31 games.

Ben Portner has also caught fire and enters the weekend fourth in overall scoring tied  with the Bombers Jacob Vockler with 60 points a piece.

Flin Flon has 5 players in the top ten in league scoring including Justin Lies, Jacob Vockler, Alexi Sylvestre, Noah Houle and Carter Anderson.

Flin Flon certainly has lots of fire power but it may be the goaltending that has taken centre stage. Harmon Laser Hume is fresh off a 33 save shut out against Melfort to give him three on the year. His team mate Kenny Marquart has four  for a team combined seven.

They rank number one and two in most goaltending categories with Marquart owning the best gaa of 1.59, and Laser Hume is at 1.99.

Flin Flon is also the only team in the league that hasn't given up at least 100 goals against this season. The Bombers have only given up 84 goals in 44 games while the next closest team is Melfort with 134 against in 46 games.

No doubt it will feel like a playoff atmosphere and you know Battleford wants to spoil the party after dropping both games to the Bombers in late January. You also want confidence that you can win at the Whitney Forum if you do meet up in the post season.

Hapnot will open things up against the Gordon Bell Panthers Friday at 5:30. They will play the host Neepawa Tigers on Saturday at 9.

Playoffs begin Saturday at 12:30 with the final at 4.

The Hapnot Queens are in Warren and will play Immanuel Christian Friday at 2:30. If they win that game they would play their next game at 5:30.

The fial will go Saturday at 4:30.

The U-11 Peads Threads Bombers are heading off to the 54th annual Munn Cup tournament this weekend in Thompson.

The Bombers kick off the tournament on Friday against the Pas Huskies at 12:30. They will play two round robin games on Saturday at 9am VS Swan Valley and play the host Thompson King Miners at noon.

Playoffs are scheduled for Sunday morning with the Semi- Final at 9 and the Munn Cup final at 4:15.

The PBCN Selects rolled over the NCN Flames this past weekend at the Whitney Forum in KJHL action 7 to 2.

Dion Fontaine did a lot of the damage with a natural hat-trick in the second period. Pavlo Kobikov added a pair with Kobe Tanuak and Dom Suhr rounding out the scoring.

Paxton Moore got the call between the pipes and was sharp stopping 28 shots to pick up the win.

The Selects improve to 21-9 and that has them sitting nicely in second spot, just 3 points behind the front running Peguis Juniors.

PBCN has just the one game this week as they head off to Cross Lake on Saturday to face the Islanders at 7:30.

The Estevan Bruins played a solid 60 minutes and spoiled the Bombers perfect road trip with a 4 to 2 win on Saturday at Affinity Place,  to hand Flin Flon just their third regulation loss of the season.

The night started well with Justin Lies picking up his league leading 35th of the season on the powerplay less than 5 minutes into the the game.

Estevan made a goaltending change pulling Jackson Miller after the goal and just four shots in favour of Cam Hrdlicka and the move paid off.

Goals the rest of the night were tough to come by and Flin Flon could only muster one more as Hrdlicka ended up stopping 27 out of 28 to help his team pick up the win.

Liam Bridger found the back of the net late in the third to make it 3 to 2, but couldn't get the equalizer and Papaspyropoulis seeled it with an empty netter to give the Bruins the 4 to 2 win.

Zac Burns, Blake Heward and Ilia Chemelevski scored the other Estevan goals as the Bruins got back to .500 at 20-20-1-2 and now sit 7th overall tied wth Melville.

Harmon Laser Hume started the game and gave up 3 goals on 36 shots and played well and suffered just his third loss of the year.

Despite the loss, Flin Flon still had a great road trip and ended up going 3-1 with wins over Melville, Notre Dame and Weyburn. These Southern road trips arn't easy and a few players ended up with the flu by the end of the week.

The Bomber remain the number one team in the country at 38-3-2 and a league best road record at 17-2-1.

Flin Flon will get a stiff test this Wednesday as they will make their way to the Northern Lights Palace to face the Melfort Mustangs. Melfort has beat the Bombers twice this season and put on a defensive clinic the last time they squared  off in Melfort on January the 6th.

The Mustangs blanked the Bombers 3 to 0 and didn't allow many good opportunities around their net and frustrated many of the Bomber top offensive threats.  Flin Flon will then host the Battleford Stars in a pair of games this weekend at the Whitney Forum which should have everybody in Bomber nation buzzing as it is always great hockey when these two teams come together.

Congratulations to the JV Queens who travelled down to The Pas for the JV Invitational this past weekend.

The Queens were impressive and rolled over the competition including wins over The Pas, Thompson and Moose Lake in the round robin.

That would put Hapnot up against the Dauphin Clippers in the final and the Queens won 35 to 32 to win the tournament.

The JV Queens are coached by Tara Dutcawich and Laura Watt.

The Senior Hapnot Kings were in Winnipeg this past weekend and played very well against some of the best teams in the province.

The Kings won their first game over Steinbach Christian 80 to 61. They battled hard agsinst ST Boniface in the semi's coming up a little bit short 58 to 54.

They closed out the weekend beating the Westgate Wings 61 to 51 to finish third.

The Kings travel to Neepawa this weekend.

The Hapnot Queens have been eliminated from the Provincial Curling Playdowns in Winnipeg.

The Queens dropped all three of their games against some very stiff competition from Morden, Jean Sauve out of Winnipeg and Gabrielle Roy.

Even though their season has come to an end they still had a very good year which  included a Zone title for the second straight year. The girls also had a chance to meet Olympic Gold Medalist Jill Officier this past weekend.

Congratulations to this year's team Niki Keramydas, Teslyn Beauchamp, Mackenzie McLean and Brooke Baynton and the coach's Karen and Tyler Kittle.

The JV Queens Basketball team are in the Pas today for the MBCI Open Tournament.

Teams are competing from The Pas, Dauphin, Thompson, Moose Lake and Norway House.

The Queens play the Pas in their first  game today at 1:30. They will then play Thompson today at 5 and Moose Lake Saturday at 9am.

Playoffs start Saturday at 12:30 and the Championship Final is set to go at 3:30.

It was a showdown for second overall in the KJHL last night as the PBCN Selects made their way to Nelson House to play the Flames.

In a game that went back and forth the Selects picked up the 7 to 5 win.

Dion Fontaine led the way with a pair of goals with Kobe Tanuak, Laryn Chaboyer, Israel Maktar and Bryson Francoeur also finding the back of the net. Francouer was able to get his first of the season.

Odin Church was back between the pipes and made 17 saves on 22 shots and also picked up an assist on the first goal of the game.

PBCN'S penalty kill was very good and was able to kill of 8 of the 11 Flames powerplays.

PBCN takes over sole possession of second place and will improve to 20-9 which is a franchise record for wins in a season. The Flames drop to 19-9-0-1.

The rematch will take place at the Whitney Forum this Saturday at 7:30.

The Flin Flon Bombers continued their southern road swing last night and played a solid game and ended up with the 5 to 1 win in Wilcox against the Notre Dame Hounds.

The Bombers showed the Hounds and the rest of the league how much depth they have as they were missing some key players including Carter Anderson, Adam McNutt and Riley Niven.

This would give the likes of Aiden Chow, Reid Arberry and Pierce Yakimchuk a chance to get in the lineup and they all played well and took advantage of the opportunity. 

Flin Flon continue to have the best specialty teams in the league and it showed last night with two powerplay markers and a short handed goal.

The Bomber captain Justin Lies  found the back of the net with his league leading 33rd goal and 6th short handed marker  to open the scoring just 6:34 into the game.

Anthony Piccininno scored a pair including a powerplay goal and now has 16 on the season.

New additions Jerome Gilbert scored his first as a Bomber and Tyson Smith picked up his second on the powerplay to round out the scoring.

Davis Sato scored on the powerplay for the Hounds and was the only one to beat Bomber netminder Kenny Marquart who ended up with 32 saves for his 13th win of the year.

Johan Tremblay Kau started for the Hounds and stopped 29 out of 34 in a losing cause.

The Bomers sit at 37-2-2 and an incredible 16-1-1 on the road. They will get a much needed day off today  before resuming the road trip in Weyburn tomorrow and Estevan on Saturday.

The Norman Regional Hockey Association is holding Director's Cup try-outs in the Pas at the Roy H Johnston Arena on Monday  February the 19th.

This is open to any 13 year olds born in 2010 in Northern Manitoba

The try-out camp fee is $100.00 and the ice sessions will be at 1pm to 2:15 and 4 to 5:15.

The Regional tournament will take place March the 29th to the 31st in Warren and the final Director's Cup tournament will be in Winnipeg April the 26th to the 28th.

The Flin Flon Bombers finally found a way to beat the Melville Millionaires, but it wasn't easy as they hung on for a 3 to 2 win last night at CN Community Centre.

Carter Anderson's league leading 20th powerplay goal was the difference, as he fired a nice snapshot past Ethan Rau late in the second period.

Anderson has hit 32 goals on the season which has him tied with team mate Justin Lies for the league lead. The Stars Kian Bell and Spencer Bell from Humboldt are close behind with 31.

Flin Flon's other goals came from Jacob Vockler who scored just 1:30 into the game. Vockler made a fantastick move on the Melville defensemen before undressing Rau for his 19th of the year.

Alexi Sylvestre also found the back of the net on the powerplay for his 21st of the year and was one of the best Bombers on the ice. Every time Sylvestre was out there he made something happen.

The Melville goals came from former Nipawin Hawk Joel Mabin and Payton Kostyshyn who scored with less than three minutes left in the game.

Melville got a late powerplay and pulled the goalie to go 6 on 4 but couldn't get the equalizer past Harmon Laser Hume who was brilliant once again making 24 saves.

That was Laser Hume's 24th win of the year and continues to lead all goalies in the league with a .933 save %.

Flin Flon will win the season series 3 to 2, but Melville played the Bombers really well and every game between the two teams this year was decided by one goal.

After last night's win, the Bombers will go 36-2-2, best in the country while Melville falls to 20-20 and sit in sixth spot with 40 points, one behind fifth place Estevan with two games in hand.

The road trip will continue in Notre Dame tonight, where Flin Flon will face the Hounds. The Bombers haven't seen the Hounds since October and their team has changed quite a bit since then.

Flin Flon Minor Hockey will be holding skill development tonight at the Whitney Forum.

It will start at 6:45 and go til 8 for all age groups from U-9 to U-18 and is open to all players and goalies.

The Northern Stars U-16 Girls Volleyball team made their debut this past weekend in Swan River. They have been practising for the last several weeks and got a chance to play in their first tournament.

The team is coached by Ray Shirran and they had a good showing.

The Stars won their first game 25 to 18 and 25  to 15 over Swan River. The Stars took on the Predators which is a team made up of girls from Grandview and Gilbert Plains and lost in three sets 25-12, 18-25 and 12-15.

They then beat Russell in the Semi's 25 to 14 and 25 -16 which put them in the final and another chance at the Predators.

The girls played hard losing in three sets 16-25, 25-22 and 4-15.

They finish second and did quite well with three of their players who couldn't make the trip who were playing Senior Basketball.

The PBCN Selects fired 53 shots at the Cross Lake Islanders yesterday but came up a little  short and dropped a 5 to 4 decision at the Whitney Forum.

Keecan Beaulieu  was sensational and was able to keep a lot of the Selects big goal scoreres at bay for much of the afternoon.

Cross Lake scored a couple of powerplay goals in the first period and never looked back courtesy of Micah Emiktowt and Bobby Orr Roulette.

The Selects got on track in the second and third with goals courtesy of Kobe Tanuyak,Kalin Roy, Mathis Bacon Labbe and Laryn Chaboyer but couldn't get the equalizer.

Specialty teams were a big part of the game with the Islanders going 2 for 2 while PBCN ended up 0 for 5.

This was a tough loss for the Selects who could of taken over sole possesion of second place over the NCN Flames who remain one point ahead and both teams have played 28 games.

The weekend wasn't a total loss as the Selects beat the first place Peguis Juniors in OT 5 to 4  on Saturday courtesy of the OT winner from Israel Maktar.

The Selects will get another chance to take over second overall as they will head off to NCN to face the Flames this Wednesday at 7:30. NCN makes their way to the Whitney Forum this Saturday to complete the home and home.

Another good showing by the  Senior Hapnot Queens basketball team  this past weekend who were competing in the Prairie Mountain Invitational in Somerset.

The Queens beat Souris and Virden before losing to the host team from Prairie  Mountain to finish second.

The Queens get a two week break before heading back south to Warren.

The Senior Kings were in Cranberry for the Frontier Collegiate Classic.

Hapnot took it to OCN 86 to 10 and Fisher River 74 to 36. They would play Cranberry in the final and the Raiders played very well and prevailed 65 to 42 to win the tournament.

Norway House finished third beating Fisher River 67 to 40.

The Teagan Quinn Memorial  tournament wrapped up yesterday afternoon at both the Whitney Forum and Sportex with 8 teams taking part from the Pas,OCN, Cross Lake, Thompson  and the host U-13 Kinsmen Bombers.

In the Consolation Final OCN beat Cross Lake team  number 2 ,  5 to 3.

In the B Final for the A Bracket it was Thompson knocking off the Pas 4 to 3 in OT.

The AA Final saw the Pas pick up the convincing 6 to 0 win over the Kinsmen Bombers to win the Teagan Quinn Cup. The Bombers went 2-2 and have qualified for Provincials in the Pas the weekend of March the 8th.

The Peds Threads Bombers had a good showing in the Pas for the Grub Box Tournament and won both their round robin games against Cross Lake and Hudson Bay.

They won their pool so they crossed over to play Thompson for the Grub Box Cup and ended up losing to Thompson 4 to 2. The team played well and just came up a little bit short.

The Peds Threads Bombers will now head to the Munn Cup in Thompson the weekend of February the 15th and are the Norman Regional Champions so they have qualified for Provincials in Grand Plains in March.

There seems to be no stopping the Flin Flon Bombers who rolled to a convincing 8 to 0 win over the Nipawin Hawks on Friday. It was Hockey Night In The North and the Whitney Forum was jam packed with over 1500 fans in attendance.

The game was basicilly over in the first 10 minutes as the Bombers jumped out to a quick 4 to 0 lead.

Carter Anderson continued his fine play with a pair of goals to give him 31 on the season, which is second overall only  to team mate Justin Lies. He also scored another powerplay goal to give him a whopping 19 which is the most in the league.

Riley Niven, who has been playing some good hockey got rewared with his first two in a Bomber uniform and finally got the monkey off his back with a nice offensive burst early in the game.

I thought Niven was one of the best Bombers on the ice in the Battleford series and he was able to carry that over in the game against the Hawks on Friday. It looks like he is playing  with a lot more confidence.

Matt Egan was back in the lineup for the first time in 2024 after serving his 6 game suspension and coming off successful surgery and was able to find the back of the net twice.

With lots of   family and friend's  in attendance, Egan had a game to remember and was a big spark for the entire team on Friday and will be a big inspiration down the stretch. This young man has battled a ton of obstacles but never gives up and will be an important piece down the stretch to the post season.

The other two goals came from Anthony Piccininno and Tyson Smith who collected his first of the year after coming over from Selkirk of the MJHL, on January the 10th.

Kenny Marquart was good when he had to be and made 29 saves for his league leading fourth shutout of the year.

Damon Cunningham started for Nipawin and played well despite giving up 6 goals on 32 shots. He was hung out to dry several times and made some highlight reel saves in a losing cause.

AP, Jaidyn Shaw came in relief and stopped 4 of 6 shots.

Flin Flon who are the only team to officially clinch a playoff spot are now 35-2-2 and lead the second place Stars by 6 points with four games in hand.

Nipawin continues to struggle and the playoffs are in jeopardy with 7 straight losses and they sit 9th overall with 36 points, one point behind Weyburn for the final playoff spot. The Wings do have two games in hand.

It is a big week for the Maroon and White Express who embark on a 4 game in 5 night road trip starting in Melville on Tuesday. The Mills have beat the Bombers twice this season and they are battling for a playoff position as well.

The Teagan Quinn U-13  Memorial Hockey Tournament will start today with games at the Whitney Forum and Sportex all weekend.

A good contingent of teams from the North will be taking part including Cross Lake, OCN, The Pas, Thompson and the host team, the Flin Flon  U-13 Kinsmen Bombers.

Games will start at 4pm this afternoon with the Kinsmen Bombers taking on Cross Lake team 1 at the Sportex and OCN will face Cross Lake team 2 at the Whitney also at 4.

Round robin games will continue right through Saturday with the playoffs to start at 9am on Sunday with the Championsip Final at 3 at the Sportex.

The Senior Hapnot Kings and Queens basketball teams are both in action this weekend.

The Kings are in Cranberry for a tournament with teams coming in from Peguis, The Pas, Norway House, Fischer River, OCN , Cross Lake and the host team from Cranberry.

The Kings face Fischer River in their first game this afternoon at 4. The final will go Saturday at 4.

The Queens are down south in Somerset and are in a pool with the host team, Souris and Virdon.

Hapnot will play Virdon Friday at 10, Souris  at 3:30 and Somerset Saturday at 10.

The SJHL/MJHL Showcase has wrapped up in Winnipeg with the SJHL taking 5 out of the 6 head to head matchups.

It was a very good day for several Flin Flon Bombers who suited up for the SJHL U-20 White team that knocked off the MJHL U-20 Red team 7 to 5.

Four different Bombers scored including Carter Anderson, Jacob Vockler, Anthony Piccininno and Alexi Sylvestre.

The other goals were scored by Nipawin's Liam McInnis, Humboldt's Travis Bryson and David Coyle from the Yorkton Terriers.

Damon Cunningham of the Nipawin Hawks  got the start in between the pipes and stopped 26 out of 31 shots to collect the win.

The team was coached by Bomber bench boss Mike Reagan.

In other games on Wednesday, the MJHL U-20 Black beat the SJHL U-20 Gold, 5 to 2.  The Estevan Bruins Ilia Chemelevski and Tylinn Hilbig of the Kidersley Klippers scored the SJHL goals in a losing cause.

In the final game played yesterday, the SJHL U-18 Team Blue beat the MJHL U-18 Team White 5 to 2.

Scoring for the sjhl were Jaydon Iyogun from Melville, Cade Meiklejohn from Weyburn, Finley Radloff of the Hawks, Ben Constantino from Humboldt and Cam Perlinger who suits up for the Kindersley Klippers.

Rookie standout Aiden Fischer of the Humboldt Broncos stopped 32 out of 34 shots and was one of the big differences in the game.

The Bombers return home to face the Nipawin Hawks on Friday night in Hockey Night In The North.
