Bombers Move Nardone, Finalize Weyburn Deal

It has been a very busy couple days for the Flin Flon Bombers who made a couple of impact moves that will give them more depth up front for the up comong season.

Flin Flon made a three way trade with Penticton of the BCHL and the Whitecourt Wolverines of the AJHL.

The Bombers have traded  highly skilled forward Vincent Nardone to Penticton and will receive forwards Chase and Easton Haygarth who played for Whitecourt last year.

The Haygarth brothers are from Lloydminster and already have two years of junior experience under their belt.

Chase had 12 points in 42 games and Easton had 35 points in 58 games including 18 goals.

Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan is very excited about the deal. " They play the game the right way. Dwayne Rhinehart our Alberta scout who was instrumental in helping us get Switzer and Kocur a couple of years ago,  told me they are very physical and are very tough to play against. They are good team mates and we feel that both these players will be able to do a lot for our hockey club."

The Bombers also completed the weyburn trade which was the futures in the Cade Kowalski deal from last season.

Flin Flon will send prospect Sebastian Eger to Weyburn  who suited up for the Regina Pat Canadians last season in the Saskatchewan Midget Triple A league.

Eger put up 17 points in 49 games. The Bombers will also give up a player development fee and another prospect in October.

Graduating Flin Flon Bombers forward Caleb Moretz (Fairbanks AK USA) has received an invitation to next week's NHL Development Camp of the Buffalo Sabres.

Moretz, who scored 21-goals and 30-assists in 45-games this past season, is slated to play this Fall in the NCAA at RIT.

"This past season we had a four game road trip and there was a Sabres scout (presumably Randy Hansch) at the Notre Dame game and he spent a little bit of time talking to me.  A few days ago I got a phone call from that same scout inviting me to their development camp," says Moretz.

Moretz is taking the opportunity in stride.  "I just want to go in with an open mindset and learn as much as I can about the NHL lifestyle as well as play to the best of my ability."

The four day event starts Wednesday at Harborcenter in Buffalo and culminates with a 3-on-3 tournament Saturday morning.  The goal of the camp is to provide an exposure to potential players as far as organizational standards and professional work habits.  Players will become familiar with the team and the resources available to them.

Meanwhile, the 2019 NHL Entry Draft concluded on Saturday in Vancouver and one-time Nipawin Hawks prospect Adam Beckman (Saskatoon SK) was taken in the third round by Minnesota.  Beckman played one game and scored a goal and an assist with the Hawks in 2018.  He also played in three playoff games as part of the Hawks championship run and scored two goals.  This past year, he put up 32-goals and 62-points in 68-games with the WHL's Spokane Chiefs.
