Flin Flon Youngster Successful In Car Racing

Caiden Willey a 9 year old from Flin Flon has been racing a stock car for the past two years and is the youngest driver competing in the Bandolero Stock Car races.

 

This past weekend at the Saskatoon Wyatt Group Racing Association, Caiden won his heat beating out 10 other cars, before placing third in the qualifier and earning a spot in the final.

 

In the final feature race Caiden was leading til he spun out on lap 4, which  put him at the back of the pack.

 

Caiden only 9 has a very bright future and will be fun to watch as he continues to get more experience in the years to come. He has 4 more races in Saskatoon this year including 2 more in July, 1 in August and 1 in September.

Nordic Race Team Conditioning Camp

The Flin Flon Nordic Race team will be hosting a summer ski and paddle conditioning camp July the 14th to the 16th.

 

The camp will take place at the ski chalet and Phantom lake and will focus in on learning more about canoe racing and how to train for ski-ing in the off season.

 

Instructors are Rick Hall who is a noted paddle builder who brings a lot of experience about the technical aspects of canoe racing. Bob Jarvis and Brett Unrau will teach the skiing part and both are long time members of the Nordic team and have trained for cross country skiing for many years.

 

Special instructor will be Andrew Brisbin who is entering his second year as Saskatchewan's high performance ski coach and has competed at the highest levels nationally.

 

Registration forms are available on the flinflon ski club website and deadline to register is July the 12th with a $30.00 entry fee.

Soccer Season Wrap Up

 

 

The Phantom Lake Soccer Club wrapped up their season with their year end tournament this past weekend.

 

Division 2 games were played at Foster Park and team Green beat the Credit Union 2-1 for the Gold Medal. The Gold Legion came third.

 

Division 3 games were played in Creighton and it was the Credit Union beating the Kinnettes 7-2 for the Gold. Rotary came third.

 

Division 4 games were at Phantom and Blue beat M.A. Ironworks 6-1 to win the Gold while the Victoria Inn came third.

Bombers Welcome Back Hall Of Famers

On Sunday, July 2nd the Flin Flon Bombers will be hosting a meet and greet at the Victoria Inn from 4-7PM.

 

Ticket cost is $20 which will include a burger, side dish, and a beverage. Contact Leanna at 204-687-4404 to get your tickets.

 

Members of the 1957 team including, Harvey Fleming, Cliff Lennartz, Carl Forster,  Ted Hampson and  Hockey Hall of Famer - Bobby Clarke will be in attendance.

 

The Film produced by the New York crew is in the final stages, but the organization  can not promise that it will be ready for this event, but this event will still be a great fundraiser. Please watch the Flin Flon Bomber Facebook page for updates..

 

Great Weekend For Local Swimmers

  

 

Congratulations to Flin Flon's Brad Cromarty and Jennifer Milton who both had a great weekend at the Special Olympics in Brandon representing the Flin Flon Flyers Swim Club.

 

Brad won two Gold and two Silver medals while Jennifer came home with two Silver and two Bronze.

 

Congratulations as well to their coach Heather Chrupalo who has been a dedicated volunteer for the Special Olympics for many years in the Norman region.

Soccer Tournament In Saskatoon

Saskatoon hosted one of the biggest soccer tournaments in Saskatchewan  this past weekend and a number of Flin Flon teams took part.

 

Here is how the Flin Flon teams fared:

 

Fury under 20 Girls- 2 losses and 1 win

 

Fusion under 16 Girls- lost all 3

 

Mutants under 14 Boys Div 3- 1 win, loss and a tie and lost in Semis

 

Storm under 14 Boys Div 2- 2 wins and a loss. Lost Final in a shoot out

 

Storm under 10 Boys lost all 3

 

Lightning under 12 Girls- 2 wins and a tie. Lost in Semis.

Childerhose Wins Award

Congratulations to Flin Flon Bomber Assistant Coach Gary Childerhose for winning this year's Dwight McMillan Award for the SJHL'S top Assistant Coach voted on by his peers.

 

Childerhose has been with the Bombers for three seasons after his playing days in Melfort with the Mustangs and attending Geneseo College in the NCAA Div 3 for four years before landing in Flin Flon.

 

Under the guidance of Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan the Bombers have had a lot of success the past three seasons including a trip to the SJHL Final in back to back years.

 

Childerhose is excited to make his way back to Flin Flon for his fourth season in the fall and this is what he had to say about winning the Dwight McMillan Award.

 

"I am honored and humbled to receive the award, being with the Bombers has been a great opportunity for me with the amount of trust and opportunity the organization has given me. Being able to take over for the months when Mike has been away with Canada West has been huge for me as a person and a coach and has really helped with my development. I can't say enough good things about the organization and the community, I am very excited and happy to receive the award."

 

Big Honor For Ski Club

The Flin Flon Ski Club was awarded a third place banner for small ski clubs with the highest percentage of improvement in high performance racing results in 2017.

 

Nick Martin accepted the award on behalf of the Flin Flon Ski Club at the Cross Country Canada Annual General Meeting in Canmore Alberta this past weekend.

 

The Flin Flon Ski Club is honored to receive this award and say a lot of credit has to go to the coach's from the Nordic Race team including Bob Jarvis, Brett Unrau and the parents who have helped the athletes develop over the years.

 

The Flin Flon team improved 516% in their racing results from the past year.

Hapnot Medal Winners At Track Provincials

A big congratulations to all the Hapnot track athletes who competed at Provincials at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg last week.

 

Hapnot had 4 medalists including Ben Funk who got Gold in the Senior Boy Discuss, Myles Quick who got Bronze in Discuss, Branson Powell took  Silver in the Senior Boys 100 meter dash and Jordan Pfoh got Bronze in the JV Boys High Jump.

 

Daley Shaw just finished off the podium throwing the Shot Put, off by 1 cm to finish fourth.

Bombers Add A Forward

The Flin Flon Bombers are pleased to announce the acquisition of 1998 born forward Will Middleton (Beausejour, MB) from the Lloydminster Bobcats of the AJHL for future considerations.

 

Middleton played in 48 games with the Bobcats last season finishing with 7 points (5g, 2a) and 12 penalty minutes in his rookie campaign.

 

“We’re really happy to get Will from Lloyminster,” said Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan.  “He’s a big body that put up good numbers in AAA midget.  We lost some size and scoring which he could potentially help in both areas.”

 

Middleton suited up for the Eastman Selects of the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League where he 70 points (32g, 28a) in 78 games over two seasons including 52 points (23g, 29a) in 44 games in his final AAA Midget season.

 

“Sometimes a change of scenery and a fresh start is all someone needs” added Reagan.  “After the numbers he put up in midget, we think that’s all Will needs.”

Homecoming Open

The Phantom Lake Golf is getting ready to host their next big tournament, the Homecoming Open which will take place on the nations 150th birthday on Saturday July the 1st.

 

There will be two shotgun starts including 8 AM or 1PM and eveyone is welcome including Ladies, Men and Juniors.

 

18 holes of golf, great prizes and a buffet dinner to follow for $65.00. It will be $60.00 for wrist band holders and club members.

The Flin Flon Bombers have started their season ticket blitz, with savings for every single age group.

 

If you pick up your season tickets before July the 10th you will save $25.00 on Adult, Senior, Student and Child tickets.

 

Also available is a major savings with the purchase of an Adult ticket (Adult or Senior)and a Child ticket (Student or Child.) 1 Adult/Senior ticket + 1 Student/Child ticket =$100.00 savings.

 

The hockey club has also announced a Steps program that will run til September the 1st.

 

For every 400 Season Tickets sold, every season ticket holder receives a Bomber T-Shirt.

Bomber Bantam Selections

The SJHL Bantam Draft took place this past Friday for all players in Saskatchewan who have finished their Bantam eligibility.

 

The Flin Flon Bombers are happy with their selections deciding on D-man Hendrik De Klerk out of Swift Current with their first round selection and 23rd overall.

 

The Bombers also selected D-man Noah Kuntz from Regina in the second round and 33rd overall, forward Brandon Von Hagen from Saskatoon in the third round and forward Mackenzie Carson from Carrot River with their final selection.

 

Carson played last season for former Bomber Captain Dennis Kubat.

 

These four players will now be added to the Flin Flon Bombers 50 man protected list.

Hapnot Award Winners

Hapnot Collegiate hosted their awards night and banquet at the Hapnot gym this past Thursday night.

 

Hapnot handed out 8 minor awards, 7 major awards and 1 double major.

 

Congratulations to the Senior Female Athlete Of The Year Hosanna Church and the Senior Male was shared by Hunter Lee and Branson Powell.

 

Junior Female Athlete Of The Year was won by Alyssa Patterson and the Junior Male had two winners including Carson Lee and Jordan Pfoh.

 

Hapnot also thanked two long time coach's Dean Grove and Tony Ticson who are both retiring at the end of the year.

Opening Day Tournament A Success

64 golfers took part in the Opening Day Tournament this past Saturday at the Phantom Lake Golf Club.

 

Congratulations to Sue Murray who won the Championship flight for the Ladies with an 89. Pat Bilquist was second.

 

Sheila Sproxton took the second flight.

 

Chris Reynolds and Lauren Fox won the Juniors.

 

Trevor Fox fired a 70 to win the Men's Championship Flight with Neil Goodman coming second and Darcy Sal third.
