Roller Returns To Flin Flon

It is a hockey tournament that started decades ago and features people getting together from Flin Flon playing the game that help shape the heart of this community.

It was once called the IOC tournament and was later renamed the Roller Goodwin Hockey Tournament in the 90's.

The format has changed throughout the years and started as a very competitive event , but the powers that be decided to settle for more of a family event.

No one worries about the score and the tournament  ranges in ages between people in their teens to grandfathers.

There are still family teams, while  others decided to enter teams that consist of players that grew up playing together, whether it is a former minor hockey team or pals from your old neighborhood.

One thing is for sure it is a special weekend that really comes to life when it returns to Flin Flon at the historic Whitney Forum. This event has also been held in Banff, Calgary, Winnipeg, Saskatoon and a few other places throughout the years.

Make sure you make your way down to the Whitney Forum the weekend of July the 29th to August the 1st to check out the action, see some familiar faces and share some great stories.

Bomber Pair Grab Scholorships

Two thirds of the most potent trio in the SJHL are moving on in their hockey careers.

Switzer finished last season with 75 points (32g,42a) in 53 games, not to mention his 19 points in the playoffs including 10 goals.

Joel Kocur from Edson AB has committed to the American International College in Springfield MA, for the Yellow Jackets NCAA Division 1 for the upcoming season.

Kocur is also coming off a career season where he picked up 71 points (34g,37A) in 57 games including 18 points in the playoffs with 6 goals and 12 assists.

Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan is very excited for both these players.

" Swits is a heart and soul guy, he put up great numbers and plays with a lot of grit and pride. "

" We are excited for Joel to be going to a rejuvinated program at AIC. With coach Eric Lange's new vision of the program we think he will be a big part of helping with the process."
