Northstars Season Comes To An End

The Norman Northstars have been eliminated from the MB Midget AAA playoffs 3 games to none at the hands of the no.1 team in the league the Winnipeg Wild.

Norman had to play the first 3 games in Winnipeg and dropped all 3 by scores of: 11-2, 7-1 and 10-0.

Tavish Quinn was Flin Flon's top point getter picking up 2 points in the 3 games 1 goal and 1 assist.

Hapnot Hosts Zones

Hapnot Collegiate Hosted JV Zone Basketball this past weekend.

The JV Kings were 1-2 and lost the semi-final to Thompson 36-34.

The Pas took the final over Thompson 65-14.

The JV Queens were also 1-2 and lost semi final to Thompson 37-11.

MBCI from The Pas beat RD Parker out of Thompson 53-40 to win Girls Zone.

Both teams from The Pas qualify for provincials in Winnipeg this upcoming weekend

Bantam Tournament

Flin Flon hosted a bantam tournament this past weekend at the Whitney Forum

A-Final

Cross Lake beat Flin Flon 10-4

B-Final

OCN beat Laronge 4-3

C-Final

Gillam beat Thompson 10- 5

JV Zones In Flin Flon

Flin Flon will be hosting JV Basketball Zones this weekend at both Hapnot and McIsaac.

The Hapnot Boys play Cross Lake today at 4pm, The Pas tonight at 7 and Thompson tomorrow at 9am.

The Hapnot Girls play Cross Lake today at 5:30, The Pas at 8:30 and Thompson tomorrow at 10:30.

All of the Kings and Queens games will be played at Hapnot with the boys final at noon and the girls final at 1:30 Saturday aft at Hapnot

The Lyle Lavis Memorial Senior Men's Bonspeil took place at the Uptown Curling Rink this past weekend.

Nelson McIntire Invitational

The Hapnot Senior Boys Basketball team were in Winnipeg competing in the Nelson McIntire Invitational.

6 of the top teams in the province competed with Hapnot having a very good showing knocking off ST James 86-80 and losing to Steinbach who eventually won the tournament 78-72 to finish 1-1 in round robin.

Hapnot beat Winkler in the Bronze Medal game 90-83.

The Hapnot Queens were in Dauphin and went 1-2 and did not qualify for playoffs.

The Kings and Queens get ready for zones in Thompson coming up March the 1st and 2nd

Northstars Take Opening Round

The Norman Northstars took their opening best of 3 series against the Interlake Lightning this past weekend 2 games to none.

Norman took the opening game 5-1 and followed that up with a 7-4 win on Saturday.

Top Flin Flon point getters were:

Tavish Quinn with 6 points including a couple of short handed goals.

Boyd Langan with 4 points

Beachamp and Barron 2 points

Akkerman 1 point

Norman will move on to play the first place Winnipeg Wild in a best of 5 with the first 3 games in Winnipeg starting this weekend.

Minor Hockey Logo Contest

Flin Flon Minor Hockey is looking for a new logo that will represent the town and rich history and tradition of hockey in Flin Flon. The logo will be used for all marketing items such as: letterhead, brochures, posters, websites etc.

You will have until March the 4th to submit your entries to:
Flin Flon Minor Hockey, PO Box 862, Flin Flon MB, R8A-1N6 or e-mail to flinflonminorhockey@yahoo.ca.

The winning entry will be announced at Flin Flon Minor Hockey's Awards Banquet in April.

Northstars Wrap Up Regular Season

The Norman Northstars wrapped up the MB AAA Midget regular season this past weekend going 1-1-1.

Norman beat Central Plains Friday 5-2, lost to the top team in the league the Winnipeg Wild 5-4 in the shoot out Saturday then ran out of gas and dropped a 3-2 decision to Interlake Sunday.

Tavish Quinn had a great weekend finishing up with 1 goal and 4 assists.

Brendan Barron 1 goal and 2 assists

Evan Akkerman 2 assists

Boyd Langan 1 assist.

Norman will finish the regular season at: 15-25-4 (34) points  4th in the Eastern Division.

The Northstars will host round 1 of the playoffs a best of 3 against the Interlake Lightning which will start Friday in Thompson.

Congrats to Brendan Barron who finished 4th in league scoring with 62 points, only 5 behind the overall lead.

Kings and Queens In Winnipeg

The Hapnot Kings and Queens Senior Basketball Teams  were in Winnipeg this past weekend for the Transcona Optima Classic.

The Kings finished up 2-1 and beat Transcona for the Bronze 81-80.

The Queens were 1-2 and lost to Kildonen East for the Bronze.

Sam Kinsley was awarded a tournament all star.

The Kings will head back to Winnipeg this weekend for The Nelson Mcintire Invitational where 6 of the top 10 ranked 3A teams will be competing.

The Queens will be in Dauphin.

Feszczyn Pee Wee Cup

Flin Flon hosted the annual Pee Wee Feszczyn Cup this past weekend.

The Pee Wee AA Bombers were 2-3 and ended up losing the Consolation to Thompson 6-5 in a very entertaining game that went back and forth.

Swan River won the tournament beating The Pas 4-0 in the final.
