Creighton Kodiaks Ready For 5th Season

The Creighton Kodiaks will have a veteran group as they prepare for their 5th season in the Northern Saskatchewan 6 Man Football League starting in September.

 

Training Camps will open right across the league, August the 20th.

 

All teams will play out of one division this year and each team will get 5 regular season games. Creighton is in a division with Beauval, Pinehouse, Cumberland House, Sandy Bay and La Loche.

 

The Kodiaks will play twice at home and three on the road. Here is their complete schedule:

 

Thursday Sept 6th at Sandy Bay- 3pm

Wednesday Sept 12th at La Loche ( In PA)- 3pm

Thursday Set 20th VS Cumberland House -4pm

Thursday Sept 26th VS Pinehouse- 4pm

Wednesday Oct 3rd at Beauval- 3PM

 

Playoffs start October the 15th, with the Ralph Pilz Trophy game in PA on Saturday October the 20th.

 

Provincials will start the weekend of October the 27th.

 

Creighton brings back 20 players from last year's team and will be one of the deepest teams in the North.

 

 

Extreme Hockey School Is Back

The Flin Flon Extreme Hockey School is the longest running hockey school in Northern Manitoba and has been around for the last 19 years.

 

It will return to the Whitney Forum August the 20th to the 24th and has something for everyone.

 

The different programs include, Juniors 6-9, Intermediate 10-12, Skill Development 12-15 and Conditioning 14 and up.

 

The Specialty Cliniics start August the 27th.

 

Mike Reagan returns as the head instructor with lots of current and former Bombers helping out.

Lies Among The Final 28

Congratulations to Flin Flon's Justin Lies on being selected among the top 28 prospects for 15 year olds across Manitoba.

 

Lies attended a selection camp in Portage in early May which attracted the top 40 bantam players across the province.

 

The program has been narrowed down to 28 and will look forward to a August camp in Winnipeg, and will cut down to 24 for the Canada Games coming up in Red Deer in February.

 

Team Manitoba won a Bronze medal in Prince George in 2015.

Phantom Lake Soccer League Comes To An End

 

The Phantom Lake Soccer Club wrapped up their season with the year end tournament played at Foster Park, Phantom Lake and Creighton.

 

In Division 2 ( 9 and 10 year olds) it was the CO-OP Rush beating the Credit Union 3-1 to win Gold. The CO-OP Red Racers took Bronze.

 

Division 3 (10 and 11) the CO-OP beat the Rotary 6-1.

 

Division 4 ( 13-14) Team Maroon over Team Blue 6-3 to win Gold. MA Ironworks took the Bronze.

 

Division 5 ( 15-18)  Rotary over the Community 4-1. CO-OP took Bronze.

 

 

 

 

 

Bomber Pre Season Schedule

In just over 2 months the Flin Flon Bombers will be back on the ice for their main camp which is scheduled to start August the 31st at the Whitney Forum.

 

The Bombers have also released their pre season schedule.

 

At Nipawin, Sunday Sept 2nd (all rookies)

At Laronge, Tuesday Sept 4th

 

VS Swan River,Thursday Sept the 6th

VS Nipawin, Friday Sept the 7th.

 

Regular season starts Saturday Sept 15th.

 

 

Shoot To Score Hockey Coming To Flin Flon

The Shoot To Score Hockey Pro Skills Camp will make it's debut in Flin Flon in August. The camp will feature a couple of names you know in the Riverton Rifle and former Flin Flon Bomber Reggie Leach and his son Jamie Leach.

 

They have all kinds of experience with the game including three Stanley Cup rings between them.

 

The camp will take place at the Whitney Forum, August the 8th to the 11th. Register by contacting Tom McDermott at 306-930-7839 or tomchop20@yahoo.ca.

 

Registration fee is $400.00 and is sponsored by Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Suicide Prevention.

 

They will be holding a kick off barbecue tomorrow starting at 11:30 at the Petrocan in Creighton. Stop by for a hot dog, hamburger and try the new Beaver Tail Burger. Proceeds will go to Amisk Lake Minor Hockey.

Bridge City Results

A number of Flin Flon/ Creighton soccer teams that play in the Phantom Lake Soccer Club travelled to Saskatoon for the Bridge City Classic this past weekend. Here are the results.

 

The Phantom Lake Thunder- under 11 girls finished 3-0 in the round robin and beat The Lakewood Thunder 1-0 to win Gold.

 

The Phantom Lake Vikings went 2-0-1 and lost in playoffs while the Phantom Lake Warriors were 2-0 before losing in semis in the under 11 boys.

 

The Phantom Lake Mutants under 13 boys went 0-2-1 and did not make playoffs. The Phantom Lake Lightning, under 15 girls went 2-1 in round robin. They lost Gold medal game to Aurora 1-0 to win Silver.

 

The Phantom Lake Storm, under 15 boys went 2-1 and did not make playoffs while the under 17 girls went 3-0 in round robin before losing 2-0 to Saskatoon to take Silver.

Roller Goodwin Registration

The Roller Goodwin Memorial Hockey Tournament is returning to Flin Flon this summer and will take place at the Whitney Forum the August long weekend.

 

The Flin Flon Bombers will be organizing it and are now taking registration for teams that would like to take part.

 

Entry fee is $850.00 per team, and you are guaranteed three games.

Teams that have taken part the last few years will get first priority.

Bridge City Classic

A number of teams from the Phantom Lake Soccer Club will be travelling to Saskatoon for the Bridge City Classic starting on Friday.

 

Good luck to the Under 11 Girls Phantom Lake Thunder, Under 11 Boys Phantom Lake Vikings and Phantom Lake Warriors, Under 13 Boys Phantom Lake Mutants, Under 15 Girls Phantom Lake Lightning, Under 15 Boys Phantom Lake Storm and Under 17 Girls.

 

Each team is guaranteed 3 games with the playoffs on Sunday.

Spring Camp Signings

The Flin Flon Bombers announced some key signings out of their spring camp, which took place in Saskatoon back in April.

 

Ryder Richmond from Forest Manitoba,  who is a moble puck moving defenseman who put up 68 points in 3 seasons in the Manitoba Midget AAA league with the Yellowhead Chiefs. He started last season with the Dauphin Kings.

 

Hunter Young a 18 year old goalie from Okotoks Alberta. Young went 3-7-3 with a gaa of 3.91 in the Alberta Midget Triple A league last year. Reagan thought he had a really good camp.

 

David Hibbs, a 17 year old power forward from Bay Roberts Newfoundland who had 37 points in 31 games with his Triple A Midget team including 18 goals.

 

A couple names Bomber fans may be familliar with,  include  Jaxon White who has suited up for the Beardy's Blackhawks the past couple of seasons. Last year, White had 18 points in 43 games and he did suit up in a couple of games for Flin Flon as an AP.

 

Matt Flodell, a 17 year old forward who played for the Midget Triple A Battleford  Stars and picked up 25 points in 43 games with 10 goals.

 

Flodell dressed for three Bomber playoff games , collecting 2 points in 3 games with a goal and an assist.

 

Head Coach and GM Mike Reagan says they will announce more signings out of their Spring Camp in the next couple of weeks.

Trout Festival Open

The Phantom Lake Golf Club is getting ready for one of their biggest tournaments of the year, the Trout Festival Open on Saturday June the 30th.

 

There will be two shot gun starts at 8am and 1pm. It will be $65.00 for non-members and $60.00 for members.

 

You get 18 holes of golf, a meal and prizes. Something new this year, you will get to pick your starting hole for first paid entries.

New Opening Date

Due to all the rain the last few weeks, the Phantom Lake Golf Club has re-scheduled the Opening Day Tournament.

 

The Opening Day Celebration will now take place on Saturday June the 23rd with a shotgun start at 4. You will get 9 holes of golf, prizes and a barbecue to follow.

 

The first Mixed 2-ball will take place this Saturday June the 16th with tee times at 3.

Pickelball Clinics

The Flin Flon /Creighton Pickelball Club will be hosting a pair of introduction clinics this Saturday at the Steventon Bunk.

 

The clinics will be at 9:30 and 1 and are both free.

 

Paddles will be provided and court shoes are recommended. This is open to all age groups and they would like it if you would pre-register by contacting Dave Etienne at detienne@mymts.net.

Bomber Bantam Draft Selections

The SJHL Bantam Draft took place in Nipawin during the AGM this past weekend. All 12 teams took part and got to choose 5 players.

 

Here are the Flin Flon Bomber selections.

 

Round 1- Jayden Wiens- Carrot River (4th overall)

 

Round 2- pass

 

Round 3- Ashton Ferster- Prince Albert

 

Round 4- Hunter Laroque- Saskatoon

 

Round 5- Conner Yager- Dundurn

 

Round 6- Grayson Chell- Saskatoon

Flin Flon Soccer Teams Do Well In Saskatoon

The Harder Avalon Soccer Classic took place in Saskatoon this past weekend and a number of Flin Flon teams had very good showings. This is very impressive, when you consider the Flin Flon teams have been playing for less than a month.

 

Here are the results:

 

Under 9 Boys- FF Knights went 2-2 and did not advance to playoffs.Under 11 Girls Thunder won Gold with a 4-0 win in the final.

 

Under 11 Boys- Warriors beat the Phantom Lake Vikings 5-2 in Semis, then lost final to Big River to take Silver.

 

Under 13 Boys Mutants went 1-2 and did not advance to playoffs. Under 15 Girls Lightning lost Semi- Final to Aurora 2-0. Under 15 Boys , Phantom Lake Storm lost Semi Final to Nipawin 1-0.

 

Under 17 Girls, Phantom Lake Fusion went 0-3 and did not advance to playoffs.
