Bombers Hold AGM

 

 

 

 

 

The Flin Flon Bombers held their AGM last night at the Flin Flon Community Hall's Green Room.

 

 

President Hank Kozar announced that the club has picked up the option on Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan's contract.They have also given him a 2 year extension.

Hank explained how important it was to have stability within the organization especially at the Head Coaching position.

It was a very good year financially with the club making a profit of $17,161.00.

David Brooks, the treasurer commented that a good chunk of the team's money had come from the new 50-50 system and playoff run. The Bomber fundraisers such as the boat draw and side by side raffle helped as well.

Mike Reagan talked about the recent rookie camp in Saskatoon where 105 kids showed up making this the largest camp in 6 years.

Mike was impressed with the talent and thought a lot of the kids were capable of playing junior hockey.

7 players were signed:

4 Forwards

local product Evan Akkerman who played with the Norman North Stars and was an all star last season.

Evan Patrick who comes from the Swift Current Legionnaires.

Ryan McQueen- Thunder Bay

Ram Brar- North Vancouver Wolf Pack

3 Defensemen

Rob Cameron- Saskatoon Blazers

Brandon Workman- Victoria Jr B

Keifer Schoufler- U of A Bisons.

Mike also mentioned 14 players are eligible to come back from last season.


The Bombers will be doing a season ticket blitz June 11-14, where the Bomber office will be open 12:30 to 7 PM each day.

The Bombers also have 3 spots open on their board of directors and if you are interested in possibly filling one of the spots call Hank at the Bomber office at 687-4404

Final Creighton Track And Field Results

Creighton wrapped up Track and Field Regionals in Melfort yesterday with their best finish in the school's history.

10 kids have qualified for Provincials in 17 different events in Moose Jaw next weekend.

Kodiaks In Melfort

The Creighton Kodiaks Senior Track And Field team is in Melfort for Regionals.

A very good showing so far. Tyler Williamson, Sydnie Morrisette and Marley Williamson all winning Gold in Hurdles. Ian Ferguson has won Gold and Evan Linnick a Silver in the 1500 .

All qualify for Provincials next weekend in Moose Jaw.

Phantom Lake Opening Day Tourney

The Phantom Lake Golf Club held their Opening Day Tourney this past Saturday with 46 golfers taking part.

Trout Festival Introduces New Event

The Flin Flon Trout Festival will be holding a 48 hour fishing derby the weekend of June 21st to the 23rd.

This is an open lake tournament so you will be able to fish where ever you want to fish.

Lots of great prizes up for grabs including biggest fish, hidden weight and lots of great prizes for the kids.

This is replacing the month long derby and more details including where to buy fishing kits will be available soon.

Youth Basketball Camp

Don Dyke the head coach of the Hapnot Kings Basketball team was yesterday's guest on the CFAR- 590 Norman Sportsline Program.

Don was in studio to talk about the first ever Kings/Queens Youth Basketball Camps coming up in August.

FF Motorcycle Association Toy Run

The Flin Flon Motorcycle Association will be holding a poker derby and toy run on Saturday May the 25th starting at 11 AM at the Gateway.

The Poker run will head to Cranberry for a parade then back to the Gateway for the toy run at 1PM. The toy run will go through town down Green Street up to Third Avenue to Main Street and wrap up on Creighton Main Street.

Trucks will follow the bikes to pick up the toys which will be donated to the Elks Club.

2013 Northern Manitoba Skateboard - BMX Championship

The new Flin Flon Skatepark will be hosting the  2013 Northern Manitoba Skateboard and BMX Championship Saturday June the 8th at 1PM.

This will be the tenth annual competition that has taken place in the North. The event is absolutely free and spectators are invited to come out and enjoy the show.

Judges and Athletes will be travelling in from Winnipeg, Thompson, The Pas and OCN.

Aqua Jets Host Spring Thaw

The Flin Flon Aqua Centre was a busy place this past weekend with swimmers from The Pas , Thompson and Flin Flon competing in the first ever Spring Thaw.

Congratulations to Flin Flon's Austin Dubreuil who won the High Point Trophy for finishing first overall for 14 year old boys.

Other highlights from the weekend included: Todd Nawrocki  qualifying for the MB/ Sask Regionals and Rylee Rierson and Carly Nowlin qualifying for Provincials for the very first time.

10 swimmers from Flin Flon have now qualified for Provincials coming up in Winnipeg June the 21st.

Wark, Litke off to NAIT and Augustana


The Flin Flon Bombers are proud to announce that 1992 born forward Jason Wark, (Campbell River, BC) has committed to the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology Nooks Men’s Ice Hockey Team of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference for the 2013-14 season.

 

Wark was acquired from the Spruce Grove Saints of the Alberta Junior Hockey League two days before the 2013 trade deadline and started contributing right away.  Wark (6’2 200 pounds) had 12 points (6g, 6a) in 16 games to go along with 41 penalty minutes.

He finished up tied for first in team scoring in the playoffs scoring nine points (4g, 5a) in 11 games.

 

“We were really happy when we acquired Jason at the deadline,” said Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan.  “Jason fit right in and contributed and we wish him the best of luck in his new endeavors.”

 

NAIT is located in Edmonton, AB and is the ACAC’s defending champions having defeated the SAIT Trojans two games to one.

The Flin Flon Bombers are also proud to announce that 1993 born forward Konrad Litke, (Calgary, AB) has committed to the University of Alberta Augustana Vikings Men’s Ice Hockey Team of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference for the 2013-14 season.

Litke finished up his second season with the Bombers with 57 points (26g, 31a) in 98 games.  This past season, Litke (6’1 200 pounds) had six points (4g, 2a) in 9 playoff games.

 

“Konrad was a great contributor to the team in two seasons and a character guy in the dressing room,” said Head Coach and General Manager Mike Reagan.  “We wish him the best of luck with continuing his career.”

 

The Augustana campus is situated in Camrose, AB and is one season removed from winning the ACAC championship.  Litke will team up with former Bomber and Flin Flon native Tanner Korchinski who just finished up his second season with the Vikings.

Soccer Season Starts

The Phantom Lake Soccer Club kick off their season tonight at various fields around town in Division 1 and 3.

Referee Clinics are also being planned for this weekend.

A Refresher Referee Clinic is being planned this Friday starting at 6:00 PM at McIsaac.

Entry Level Clinic Modules 1 and 2 this Saturday starting at 9am at McIsaac.

Modules 3 and 4, Sunday starting at 9am at McIsaac.
