Last City Council Meeting For George Fontaine As Mayor

It was a historic City Of Flin Flon Council meeting on Tuesday night as this was the final meeting for  this group of council with the Flin Flon Municipal Election next Wednesday.

The meeting began with two bylaws including a public hearing for a proposal for the Whitney House and Staff House Boundary Realignment. This would be a transfer of Municipal jurisdiction to the City of Flin Flon.

The second bylaw was a Proposed Airport Boundary Realignment with a transfer of Municipal jurisdiction to the City of Flin Flon.

The City reported that they have applied for a grant for the Manitoba Growth Program. This would have to do with the Fire Station which needs an  infrastructure renewal and improvements.

The City also needs to purchase a new Fire Engine to help fire fighting capacity. The total cost would be over three million dollars while the City would contribute $1,600,000.00 towards the project. The remaining project funding would be provided by the funding sources of the application.

The meeting concluded with Mayor George Fontaine congratulating long time City Councillor Bill Hanson for his 27 years of service. Hanson will not be running in next week’s Municipal Election.

Mayor Fontaine went on to thank this group of council and said it was an honour to serve with them the last four years and mentioned their accomplishments and was grateful for all their efforts.
