The Village of Denare Beach held a community meeting to update residents on the Fire Smart Programs and Fire Smart Mitigation.
New Mayor Karen Thompson spoke at the meeting as this was her first official meeting after being sworn in on September the 16th.
Thompson thanked the Denare Beach Fire Department for their service to the community and unwavering commitment to protecting the Village.
They went over some tools, services and supports that residents can access to better protect their homes. The programs include Fire Smart 101, which is a free 1 to 5 hour online course for Fire Smart. There is also an App that residents can use to offer a self conducted home assessment.
There are other multiple resources that may be available to the Village Of Denare Beach including a $500.00 grant for a community preparedness . Applications open on November the 1st.
Fire Smart has been doing Mitigation work in the Denare Beach area since 2020. Most of this work has been chainsaw crews and thinning projects, post fire harvesting and long term community planning. Approximately 40 hectares have been covered in work between 2020 and 2025.
