Update On Flooding In The Parkland

Several highways and provincial roads have been closed in the Parkland region following last week’s storm.

Several roadways have been washed out, including those connecting Swan River to Inglis, Cowan to Ashville, Winnipegosis to Camperville and Grandview to Gilbert Plains. Two bridges have also been washed out on Highway 10, between Mafeking and Highway 77. A comprehensive list of road and highway closures can be found at www.manitoba511.ca.

Within the City of Dauphin, most roads are water covered and some are impassable. Similar reports are occurring in other communities in the region, including Swan River and Minitonas.

RCMP are working alongside provincial, municipal and First Nation officials throughout the region to assess the impact of the flooding and work collaboratively to address it.

In the meantime, RCMP are encouraging individuals to put off travel within the region if possible, as flood waters can be unpredictable and potentially dangerous. Do not attempt to drive through fast-moving flood waters that have overtaken highways and roads. They  also urge people to take care if walking near rivers and streams.

Motorists who do need to travel should plan ahead. This includes checking Manitoba 511 before leaving and packing supplies – such as food, water and dry clothing – in case you become stranded.
