Wildfire Information Session Held Last Week

The City of Flin Flon hosted a wildfire information session last week as we move towards wildfire season once again this summer.

Members of Flin Flon City Council were joined by members of the Flin Flon Fire department including Fire Chief Jason Kuras, members of the Manitoba Wildfire Service, Manitoba EMO and Flin Flon Emergency members.

There were a variety of issues discussed including how wildfires are fought, how people can protect their properties, and why certain decisions were made last year including the decision to have residents evacuate.

Members from Firesafe Canada talked about how to keep brush, etc. away from your home, because of flying hot embers in a wildfire fire usually lead to how your home can catch on fire.

The City Of Flin Flon is currently working with professionals from a mitigation plan to clear deadwood near the community. This is a three to five year project that involves working with all levels of government.

The City reminds residents to make sure that they have filled out their emergency pre registration form on the City Of Flin Flon website or by picking up a form from  City Hall.
