The Royal Canadian Legion Branch numbers 73 Ladies Auxiliary are preparing for one of their longest running events this weekend. The Vimy Tea commemorates the World War I battle of Vimy Ridge where for the first time, the four divisions of the Canadian military corps fought as a single unit, achieving a victory where British and French forces had previously failed. Tea convener Claudette Toffan tells us that it not only honours an important Canadian milestone but also helps out the community.
“By having this Tea we raise money for bursaries that are awarded to graduating students who are furthering their education in any field. We give out bursaries to Hapnot, Many Faces, and in Creighton. Our Legion Ladies have been doing this since 1977, and each year we put up a star with the names of the bursary winners to be seen by all who attend the Tea.”
It includes sandwiches, a bake table, loonie parade, cake walk, sheet cake plus the money raffle ,the scratch ticket raffle and of course tea. The 48th Annual Vimy Tea takes place this Saturday at the legion auditorium from one to four. Admission is $7.
