A long time resident of Cranberry Portage, Mary-Anne Playford has been nominated for the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Leadership Award at the upcoming 42nd annual volunteer awards in Winnipeg.
The Volunteer Awards recognize the extraordinary individuals, groups and organizations whose passion and commitment are making a lasting impact right across the province.
Mary-Anne is being recognized for her great work with the Cranberry Portage Museum where she personally created every exhibit, curated every collection, and can tell the story behind every artifact in the building. She has quite literally recreated life in the 1930s through 1950s within the walls of the historic Canadian National Railway station, allowing visitors to step into the past and understand what northern life once looked like.
Mary-Anne’s resilience is equally inspiring. Even after losing her hearing, she continues to run the museum, greeting visitors, guiding tours, and teaching students.
The award will be presented in Winnipeg on April the 30th.
