The Northern Neighbors Foundation were established in 1994 and started to distribute funds through grants to volunteer groups and organizations in 1997, which has totalled over Two Million dollars so far for community projects.
Granting has closed for this year and Shylo Peters says they had a large amount of applications once again from lots of organizations in the Flin Flon area. " This year we have just shy of $189,000.00 to give to community projects, and we had a fantastic turn out for applications. We had over 30 applications to consider and those totalled over $300,000.00 in grant requests. In the next couple of months what will happen, is the board will get together and go through the applications and see who is eligible. Then we will determine how much we can give to the people who are eligible and go from there. Our funds are usually distributed in June as close as to June 15th as we can."
When they have a concrete date planned they will inform the public and anyone who would like to come to the cheque presentations is more than welcome.
The Northern Neighbors Foundation doesn’t just award grants but also award high school bursaries at Hapnot and Creighton schools including the Ray Daneliuk Bursary for $10,000.00 for anyone going into trades. There is a lot of money available for assistance with education, so if you have any questions call Shylo at 204-687-5715 or send an e-mail to northernneighborsfoundation@gmail.com.
