Volunteers Deliver Wheelchairs To Pukatawagan

From Feb. 25-27TH, a convoy of three cars and eight volunteers made their way from Winnipeg to Pukatawagan, through The Pas, to deliver new beds, coats and wheelchairs to members of the Mathias Colomb Cree Nation.

This was organized by the Knights of Coulmbus who made the drive through challenging winter roads to reach the village of 2,000 residents on February 26th  and personally delivered 500 new winter coats for local children, 22 new high-quality beds and 10 wheelchairs to those with pressing healthcare needs. With the donation, the Knights of Columbus has distributed more than 300,000 new winter coats across the U.S. and Canada this winter, surpassing last year’s record of 286,000.

Inspired by Reverend Murray Chatlain, Archbishop of Winnipeg, who proposed the idea of visiting the First Nations community, the trip was led by Mark Desjardins, State Deputy of the Knights of Columbus in Manitoba, in close cooperation with Fr. Dhana Raju Amarlapudi, MSFS, pastor at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Pukatawagan.
