Manitoba Government Investing Money Into New Aqua Centre

The Manitoba government is investing $2.9 million to support construction of a new, modern aquatic centre and a separate major art, cultural and educational institution in Flin Flon.

Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard was in Flin Flon for the announcement on Friday.

Funding includes $2.4 million for construction of the Aquatic Centre through the Manitoba Growth, Renewal and Opportunities (GRO) program. The other $500,000.00 will go towards North Central Canada Centre Of Arts and Environment.

The new rec facility will replace the former aquatic centre, which was demolished in 2020 due to infrastructure failure. Once completed, the aquatic centre will offer recreation opportunities for a regional population of more than 18,000 residents from Flin Flon, The Pas, Cranberry Portage, Sherridon, Creighton and Denare Beach and surrounding cottage communities.

The new Aqua Centre construction should be completed by the end of March,  and should open up later this Spring once all the equipment is running smoothly and training of staff is completed.
