It is a big weekend in Denare Beach with not only the Denare Beach Winter Festival but the return of the Jimmy Custer Memorial Dog Sled Races this Saturday and Sunday.
One of the organizers Wally Olson says they have a number of teams entered coming in from all over. " The weather is loking very good for the spectators, we have the trail in and tomorrow we will be marking it. We are expecting mushers from Quebec, Yellowknife, St Milo Manitoba, every direction they are coming. So we have upwards of ten teams confirmed and we could end up with fifteen. It is very exciting, for our main event the ten dog, we could have 150 dogs taking off at the same time."
You can still enter a team as registration will take place between 8 and 10am this Saturday before the races start at 11am. There will be three different races including the Ten Dog at 11am, Six Dog at 12:30pm and the Four Dog at 1:30pm. If you have access to a snowmobile feel free to come out and follow the entire race.
