Flin Flon Rec Director Cait Bailey recently attended the Parks and Recreation Association Summit which took place in Ottawa, and she stopped by the CFAR studio to discuss the meeting on the most recent City Beat program.
Bailey says it was great to attend the first ever summit they ever had and was able to learn more about Recreation’s role in emergency and disaster preparedness.
“CPRA is our national board that represents parks and recreation practitioners across the nation of Canada. There were people there from every province and territory, including a large board of directors. Couple of the asks that we had, of the federal government, that would affect us most specifically when it comes to emergencies would be a two-million dollar grant that they would fund through the CPRA for parks and recreation practitioners to apply to during emergencies, like we had over the summer. I think, people don’t realize that parks and recreation are a huge point when it comes to emergencies and disasters.”
