Crystal Kolt on behalf of the City Of Flin Flon stopped by the CFAR studio yesterday to chat about something very exciting coming to Flin Flon which will help promote the community and our area here in the winter time.
It is called the Flin Flon Snow Lodge and Crystal tells us how this idea came about. " This kind of happened , I am going to throw this at a person we all know in the community, Duke Rodnisky. This has been two years in the making at Festival Du Voyageur in Winnipeg and he saw someone carving ice. The person carving ice asked Duke where he was from and he siad Flin Flon. The person carving ice said I want to build a Snow Hotel in Flin Flon and that was the beginning."
The city wants to start celebrating winter and the architect of the project will be Peter Hargraves from Anvil Tree who has been involved with the Warming Huts in Winnipeg at the Forks and the Ice Sculptures at Trappers in The Pas.
The City Of Flin Flon was able to get funding from the Manitoba Mineral Development Fund and local companies Big Ice, MA Ironworks, Reliance and Koop Geo Technical will all be involved. The Snow Lodge will be built right next to the Rotary Wheel and Big Ice will start making the snow mountain next week, and the architect will arrive shortly after.
