Arts Council Hosted Their AGM

The Flin Flon Arts Council held their AGM this past Monday night at their office at the Flin Flon Community Hall.

President Carrie Hume chaired the meeting and said it has been a challenge since she took over for Margot Gray who resigned earlier this year. Hume has been very involved in the community attending Arts Network Conferences and various meetings around the North.

Hume looks forward to the upcoming Ham Sandwich production and the Community Choir Christmas concert.

Crystal Woodward is the Executive Director and had a very busy year applying for grants, attending showcases, managing the Uptown Emporium, organizing Culture Days and various other tasks. Her goal moving forward is to find new ways to get funding through financial opportunities.

The Arts Council had a good year financially bringing in over $450,000.00 due to ticket sales for Annie, the Northern Pikes show which sold out and the Christmas concert featuring Red Moon Road which was also a sell out.

The meeting also included a presentation from ImagiNorthern who is a collective of artists, makers and producers from across Northern Manitoba, dedicated to supporting communities right across the North helping diversify the economy.

Fionna Rettie is the Project Manager and she mentioned that they have hired a consultant Dary Penner who will help identify areas to work on and priorities as well as laying out responsibilities and roles.

Elections were held with Gwen Eggert, Sheri Pearson and Lyn Brown all being elected for two year terms. Wendy Couet, Dian Campbell and Debbie Macdonald were all elected for a one year term.
