Area rinks will benefit from government grants

The Saskatchewan government has invested nearly 1.6 million dollars in 520 facilities in 362 communities through its Community Rink Affordability grant.  Included in the list of grants is the Town of Creighton for the Sportex and the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation for Dechambault Lake.  The Government says   the 25 hundred dollar per indoor ice surface grant helps communities, non-profits, schools, rink boards and First Nations communities keep their rinks open and running efficiently adding they’re allowing rink owners to hire caretakers, keep rinks open longer and repair and upgrade facilities.

Sport Minister Kevin Doherty says local rinks provide significant sport and recreation opportunities to people living in both small towns and city neighborhoods and that’s why the grants have been made available for a second year.
