After 76 years as an AM station CFAR made the move this afternoon to the FM dial to provide listeners with a better sound and stronger signal locally. Station Owner Tom O’Brien says the move to include 102.9 FM has taken a while to become a reality. He says the thought of wanting to go to FM has been with them for probably a decade and they really got serious about it two years ago, made application about a year and a half ago and started the process. He adds he’s surprised it took as long as it did but that’s how long it takes and they’re excited that they’re finally a the end of the process and can get this thing going and open up a new chapter here.
102.9 FM officially came on the air at 1:02 this afternoon. CFAR will continue to broadcast at 590 AM for listeners outside the range of the FM signal.
