RCMP Lay Out Plan For Flin Flon

The Flin Flon RCMP hosted a Town Hall meeting this past Tuesday night at Council Chambers at Flin Flon City Hall.

The local RCMP along with members of Manitoba Justice unveiled their different strategies on how they will combat crime in our area and the entire province.

Flin Flon Staff Sargeant Steve Brushett who has been with the Flin Flon RCMP for the last 14 years,   talked about a program that they have been doing locally in the schools in Flin Flon and Creighton. " The program I am assisting with is in partnership with the True North Youth foundation and the Winnipeg Jets is called Project 11. It is a mental health awareness initiative where by it is curriculum designed from K to 12 in the school systems. This helps children understand and deal with mental health."

Staff Sargeant Glenn Elsworth was also in attendance and he mentioned that they would be holding town halls in all the Northern Districts next year and Flin Flon was their  first stop.

One of the big concerns raised by the public that attended the meeting was the safety on Main Street. Brushett commented that they are working very hard on this,  including improving the lighting on Main Street and an increase in video surveillance . The local RCMP is also fully staffed with one Sargeant, two Corporals and ten Constables in the area with another one arriving in December.

Mayor Fontaine  commented that they have created a Public Safety Committee and will continue to work on finding solutions.

You are reminded if you witness a crime to call the local detachment and you can always contact Manitoba Crime Stoppers.
