This Tuesday September the 30th is Truth And Reconciliation Day, also known as Orange Shirt Day to commemorate the survivors and children who never made it home from residential schools.
The event will be recognized across the country including a sculpture unveiling at Flin Flon’s Pioneer Square. The City is preparing for this special occasion and will make sure that Main Street is cleared of traffic.
Kacper Antoszewski, the Manager of Public Relations and Community Engagement explains. " At 11:45 people are going to be gathering at the Flin Flon Aboriginal Friendship Centre for a march from the Friendship Centre to Pioneer Square. Just for the safety of everyone walking, we are going to be shutting down Main Street from 11:45 to 12:30 to make sure people can make that march. Be mindful when you are downtown that the road is closed for that short period. If you are in the area we invite you to join us for the march."
After the walk to Pioneer Square, the event will continue with a drum song and opening prayer, land acknowledgement and messages from different dignitaries at 12:15pm. Then they will have the unveiling of the monument, a closing prayer and refreshments provided.
