Keekih Project Breaks Ground

The Flin Flon Friendship Centre broke new ground with a special ceremony Wednesday morning beside their building on Church street. The new chapter in housing in Flin Flon is going to be known as the Keekih project meaning My House, My Home.

Shelly Craig the Executive Director of the Flin Flon Friendship Centre tells us this has been a long time coming. " I mean it started from research quite a few years ago and trying to identify what the housing and homelessless situation was in Flin Flon. That obviously brought us to a need to address housing and homelessness. From there we established a community based committee and we did some strategic planning."

Keekih will house 16 units, 7 studio apartments, 6 one bedroom and 3 two bedroom units with capacity to accommodate up to 38 occupants. A programming/meeting room is also in the plans.

At this point in time, the first goal is getting the foundation built before the snow flies, before resuming work in the spring and summer. If everything falls into place they hope to open the new building in early 2027.
