The Cranberry Portage Trout Challenge returns for the 34th year this Saturday and Sunday. Committee member Tiffany Anderson lets us know the key to its long running success
“I think, you know, the key to our event is all the great sponsorships that we get from the region...the businesses in Flin Flon have just been excellent, as have the businesses in The Pas. So, for our little village of Cranberry Portage we’re very thankful for that and it’s allowed us to put up some great prize money. We increased it a few years ago, so, we have well over $15,000 worth of prizes. The first, second and third prizes are guaranteed...first prize is at $6,500 and second and third at $3,250 and $2,500...”
You can still register by going to the fish donkey app. The cost is $200 per 2 person team to take part.
Committee members will be at the Cranberry Portage rink mid afternoon Friday should you require help with the app or any questions you may have.
Friday at 6:30 will be the official rules meeting. In addition to the fishing derby itself, there is the boat parade that everyone is invited to starting at 7pm, followed the smoked fish contest. Saturday there will be the horse shoe competition, food vendors, beer gardens, the artisan market plus activities for kids and live music. A full list of events can be found on the Cranberry Portage Trout Challenge Facebook page.
