Flin Flon City Council Made Their Presence Felt In Ottawa

During the start of our communities evacuation Flin Flon City Councillors Mike Slipp and Heather Richardson attended the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference in Ottawa. The issues regarding the wildfires were top of mind not only for the Flin Flon attendees but the conference as a whole.   Councillor Richardson talked about how wide ranging the fire situation was

“We spent so much time speaking with our sister communities, like Alberta, everyone was either had already just come out of a fire season or fire year last year or several years before, or they were just entering to fire season now and having the same issues as us. And it was great to get that insight and that advice, and just the support really.”

Beyond the fires the conference also discussed national and international matters. Councillor Slipp attended a presentation with leadership from south of the border.

“One of the unique things, which I really enjoyed, was big city mayors from Canada and the United States have gotten together to talk about the tariffs situation. And they spoke, there was four or five from the U.S and four or five from Canada, and how they’re all fighting against these tariffs…and they’re important to Flin Flon and the mining community.”

You can hear the full edition of City Beat in which both councillors go further in depth as well as how other areas showed their support for Flin Flon. That will be on the Flin Flon today podcast section of flinflononline.com
