The City Of Flin Flon held their first City Council meeting since the evacuation on Tuesday night at the Flin Flon Community Hall.
Mayor George Fontaine welcomed everyone back from the evacuation and was quick to acknowledge the firefighters and everyone that stayed behind to help fight the fires. Fontaine also wanted to thank all the different communities across the province and country for welcoming in the evacuees and showing their support during a very difficult time.
Deputy Mayor Alison Dallas Funk thanked the Northern Neighbors Foundation for teaming up with the Food Bank and donating $200,000.00 towards the different fire departments and supplying food, cleaning kits and hygiene packs to all the returning evacuees. 908 families were able to get support by stopping by the Wellness Centre which was established at the Whitney Forum.
The City held two special meetings of council by zoom during the evacuation to put a plan together to apply for the Disaster Financial Assistance Fund and to decide on a date to lift the mandatory evacuation.
The City is planning to go ahead with all their summer projects they planned including a new bus, shelters and sidewalks, as well as all their paving projects.
The public hearing the City had planned for back in June about the rezoning of Kingsway Boulevard will be rescheduled to September.
