Thompson City Council voted yesterday to declare a State of Local Emergency for the City, effective until August 6th.

Mayor Colleen Smook, in speaking with 102.9 CHTM yesterday, explained the benefits of this precautionary step.

" What the State of Emergency does now that it is declared,  is precautionary so that we at the city can prepare for any challenging conditions. It gives the city the ability to take action if necessary to protect residents and property around the city of Thompson."
