The City Of Flin Flon held a community meeting on Thursday night at the Flin Flon Community Hall to update everybody on the current wild fire situation.
194 fire fighters from Flin Flon, municipalities across Manitoba and the United States were able to hold the fire off from entering the community and as a result no structures in Flin Flon or Creighton were lost.
Flin Flon Fire Chief Jason Kuras was quick to praise the skills of all the firefighters. " It went really well and I have an amazing group of people that are here all the time that are part of the Flin Flon Fire Department. They stepped up their game to a level that I don't think anybody thought was even possible. They put in excruciating long hours and did what ever was necessary and got the job done, on a scale that I don't think anyone in this province has ever seen. On top of that, once we started to get resources in from the rest of the province it became a massive effort and everyone was so fantastick to work with. They were very excited to come up to the community and help out."
The fire is currently burning in the Neosap Lake area and crews continue to diligently work on the fire with more crews expected to fly in the next few days. The fire is still burning at around 370,000 hectares. Kuras says to expect smoke and hot spots off and on til the snow flies.
