The University College of the North (UCN) is excited to announce plans for a dedicated student housing facility in Flin Flon. This initiative ensures that students attending short-term programs have a place to stay, reflecting UCN’s dedication to overcoming barriers to education in northern Manitoba.
Vice President of Community and Industry Solutions Jamie Grant says this is a major announcement going forward . " We have a request for a proposal currently out for a modular unit for 30 to 35 beds is what we are looking for. It is going to be placed in the empty lot that was donated by Hudbay many years ago next to the Mining Academy. We will be looking at site preparations in early February with the dorms arriving into Flin Flon by the end of February early March. We will be mobilizing those, getting them tied into the water sewers, power and getting them student ready. We are looking at placing students in there by this summer."
Grant went on to say that this is big news for the entire community which will allow them to offer many education programs in Flin Flon and become a go to training centre.
