It is Aids Awareness Week and the Women’s Resource Centre on behalf of the Play It Safer network want to bring awareness to HIV/Aids in the Flin Flon area.
Madison McIntire from the Women’s Resource Centre says treatments and information has come a long way in helping treat the disease. " So there is medication right now to prevent HIV from spreading, so if taken consistantly the amount of HIV living in their blood can be undetectible so it cannot be spread. This medication also helps people living with HIV to live longer happier lives than in the past. So the goal is to educate ourselves the best we can on prevention and treatment, as well as getting tested which can be done at the Primary Health Care Centre here in Flin Flon."
The Play It Safer network are raising awareness by lighting up Flinty in the campground red and will also be hosting a lunch and learn about HIV from the public health nurses at the Friendship Centre today at noon.
