Mayor Fontaine commented that a lot of assumptions have been made but they are still not sure what did start the fire at the Landfill on Thursday night. The fire is under control and there is no open flames. No estimate on the damage has been given but it has cost the city between $50 and $80,000.00 to fight the fire.
The city is still waiting to hear the total damages to Camp Whitney and will make conclusions when they get the final report from the adjuster.
Mayor Fontaine also talked about his thoughts from the recent water rates study public forum which took place last week. Fontaine said the city appreciated the turn out and are taking all the comments and suggestions that were presented very seriously and will be looking at a new proposal. Nothing is definite yet and they want to do what is in the best interest of the residents here in the community.
They have noticed a big decrease in water usage the last year and are working very hard on repairing the different water leaks in the community. Water usage is in half compared to a year ago.
Some residents voiced concerns over people dumping their garbage on the Trout Lake road and Mink Ranch road. City Council will report this to the Provincial Environment Dept and are going to post signs and levy fines if necessary.
