Every other year the CBC presents their “Future 40” honorees. They highlight 10 Manitobans under the age of forty who reshape their communities through business science and volunteerism.
Northern Manitoba’s, Karen Laforte Gallagher, is one of this years’ recipients
Gallagher has worked for University College of the North for nearly a decade and is currently the school's human resources administrator.
She's also vice-president of The Pas Health Complex Foundation and a member of the Pas Volunteer Fire Fighting service.
The spirit of volunteerism is something that can under the right conditions, Gallagher said:
"Time is a finite thing and we make the time or we don't," she said. "When other people see you getting out there and helping within your community, it's often a bit contagious.… They're more likely to step up."
Gallagher is the only person from Northern Manitoba on this year’s list
