A popular spot for families to enjoy over the summer months has now become more accessible for everyone. The Channing Recreation Committee has received grant money from the Northern Neighbors Foundation to purchase a mobility map and Carrie Stinton tells us more.
“So what that is, It's a map that anybody in a wheelchair or who uses a walker or somebody who might be unsteady in the sand can access the water easily.”
“Then we purchased a wheelchair accessible picnic table, we have a new moulded bucket swing that's for ages 5 to 12 years old. And that just kind of secures the child in the swing, like a child who might have some limitations with their mobility and not be able to sit on the swing themselves.”
The mobility map is now in place and the committee wanted to make the beach even more accessible for everyone, as Carrie tells us about more upgrades.
The beach improvements came at a cost of $4,500.00 dollars.
