The City Of Flin Flon hosted their annual budget meeting in Council Chambers on Wednesday night.
Chief Administrative Officer Lynne Brown chaired the meeting and was able to break down the numbers for the rest of 2024 and beyond.
The biggest forms of revenue for the city are taxes which make up 40% with grants bringing in just over 30 %. The biggest expenses are public works at just over 30 % and recreation and culture at about 25%,
Brown talked about the different planning and developments which will help lead our community forward including affordable housing, industry attraction and diversification, attractive leisure activities and wellness facilities, community safety initiatives and downtown initiatives.
One of the big concerns that have come from the community are structural improvements and repairs, mainly due to roads and the city has budgeted $425,000.00 . One big project will be repairing Main street between the old CO-OP and the Dental Clinic. They will be ripping the road out and replacing it with the work to be started after the Trout Festival.
There is also a plan to work with 6 neighboring communities to share two landfills. The city has hired an engineering company to look at the current landfill and determine how much longer it can keep going. They are currently looking at an alternate location.
Another cost cutting measure the city is looking at is decreasing some staff and leasing equipment as opposed to buying it.
The City went on to say this is what we can expect for 2025 Increased Municipal Core Funding, increased income through land sales and business development, targeted fundraising in particular the new Aqua Centre, major capital projects and increased grant applications for infrastructure projects.
