Funding, snacks and walking were all part of the school board meeting

In his report to the Flin Flon School Board last night Superintendent Blaine Veitch announced the school division has been awarded ten thousand dollar for the next two years supporting students in the Focus program. Patty Korchinski and Dean Grove spearheaded the attendance initiative grant which will see schools participating gather data and share with other schools in the province.

At Ruth Betts Community School the healthy snack program continues.  With assistance from teachers and parent volunteers students K through grade eight will receive a snack every morning consisting of at least two food groups.

The Division will also recognize Walk to School Week.  The international initiative encourages staff and students to walk, bike or skateboard to school the week of October 7th.  The event promotes physical activity, develops community cohesion, school interaction and reduces traffic congestion, pollution and speed near schools.  Walk to School Day falls on Wednesday, October 9th.
