It is time to fix up those vacant buildings

At their meeting last night Flin Flon City Council passed on final reading a bylaw to regulate the condition of vacant and derelict buildings and to discourage the boarding of vacant buildings.

Administrator Mark Kolt says the reason for the bylaw is there’s a fair number of substandard buildings in Flin Flon that contribute to the deterioration of a neighborhood.  He says the city has to determine a property is vacant, has serious bylaw violations and is not being worked on.  He says notices are sent out to the owner before the city acts so there are plenty of opportunities for the owner to take steps to fix it up.  Kolt adds it will have a serious impact on some properties but they feel most people will take the necessary action to meet the bylaw and not lose their property,

In other business Councilor Tim Babcock reported the Trout Festival annual meeting will be held on October 9th at 7 in City Council chambers and they hope to see more people come out and get involved.
