Raj Sewda Guest Speaker At Yesterday's Chamber Meeting

The Flin Flon Chamber Of Commerce held their first meeting of 2024 at City Council Chambers on Tuesday afternoon. Among the highlights, the Chamber commented on the Christmas Parade being a big success. They are also getting requests from some organizations on membership and are working with other chamber groups from the North on supporting a rest stop at Devils Lake.

Raj Sewda the CEO from the Northern Health Region was the guest speaker and he commented on his first year on the job and where the challenges lie for people in the North. " The first 9 months have really been rewarding, it is wonderful here to see individuals and our staff and a large group of 1700 committed health care workers in the region. One of the biggest challenges we have is it is a very sparsely populated region with about 61 percent of Manitoba's land mass, and only about 6 percent of poppulation. With density being low we are having a hard time maintaining the volumes as well as attracting talent and keeping it. Being able to serve this vastly wide region in itself is a big challenge."

Sewda went on to say that they are preparing a pamphlet that will be available with all the services that are offered including a list of  doctors in our area. They have done this in Thompson and it has been well received.
