A final reading of a zoning amendment  was the big topic of conversation Tuesday night at the first Flin Flon City Council meeting of 2024.

Deputy Mayor Steve Lytwin chaired the meeting and gave the final reading where the city wishes to redesign the former Willowpark Curling rink area from parks and recreation to commercial.

A group of developers are interested in purchasing that area of land to build an assisted living complex for seniors. Residents had until Tuesday to let their objections be known in writing and will be turned over to the planning division. The Municipal Board in Winnipeg will make the final decision.

Chief Administrative officer Lyn Brown commented that things are progressing with the reconstruction of the Flin Flon hotel. The developer is in the stages of looking for local contractors to start local demolition very soon.
